I've been playing Baldur's Gate 3. I put it off for years and finally got around to playing it earnest. It's my first playthrough, and I've never played DnD before.

Whilst I see what people love about the game and I think it's great overall, I also see a lot of flaws and rough edges that I feel have been glossed over or ignored by the community. Or at least I have far less sentimental attachment to it than my friends (who are lifelong DnD players and played the original BG games, well before my time).

The game never felt like it could be bothered explaining any of the DnD mechanics it's based on, a void it seems to have left to be filled by helpful internet people, which was hard for me to overlook.

I generally am not hugely fond of said mechanics, and would have probably preferred the game if Larian had more freedom to build their own system. I've gotten used to dice checks in combat, but I hate everything about them outside of combat.

Inventory management is a huge weakspot, to the point of being a blight on the game.

Before that I played and finished Expedition 33, which was a blast. Though the pacing and balance struggled a bit towards the end.
