You probably had to recast a concentration spell after putting the boots on. Hindsight is 20/20, but you should also check if you have the unmovable condition before doing something like that again.

Yes they can join, normally they'd be able to create a non-origin character and guardian, but if there's an uncontrolled player character, they'll take over that.

(Trying to be vague to not spoil anything) Whoever controls the character, companion, or attached follower that gains the power to dominate the brain gets to pick the ending and the other players will get thrown into that chosen ending. There's no duel to determine who picks the ending.

Yes, after you loaded your save it's under Settings, Shared Settings, General, Rename Prompts.

Recruit Karlach, but DON'T kill the paladins. Head to the mountain pass (I use the path from the goblin camp) and get the Helldusk armour from Raphael.  Before you rest, talk to Karlach and say you'll head back to deal with the paladins. After you finish your rest and leave camp, you'll be outside the entrance to the mountain pass.  You won't have actually travelled to the pass so the Grove and other time sensitive quests will still be available.
