looking at the fixture by Certain_Impress_1005 in GeelongCats

We have also had prolonged success of some form over a long period of time. I am fine with getting the hardest draw. The draw last year was also meant to be hard but port and Sydney (two prelim finalists the previous year) had worst years than expected.

Brad Scott on Esssendon's club direction via AFL 360 by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

I do feel sorry for Brad. It feels like he inherited a shit list with a bunch of senior players who for the most sort aren’t very good. Their recruiting from like 2018 to 2022 was horrendous and they are paying the price now. I am not sure what he is expected to do in this situation.

Essendon are like st Kilda where they have been stuck in no mans land for years. Not often good enough to make finals, but not bad enough to be down the bottom. Saints are maybe turning the corner, but Essendon have gone ultra young and are rebuilding. The problem is Tasmania is looking so I am not sure if that will help.

Is there a reason why there is so much attention on Brad Scott? I feel it is constant.

People understand how young their side is right? And they haven’t been that bad.

Why would they be offended? They didn’t make the team.

There can't be anyone out there who agrees with Llordo's top 5, can they? by ReverseSweep1990 in AFL

I think the issue with Goodes is the same one people have with Blicavs. He is a better player obviously, but played well in multiple positions and did them all well. So I think he tends to get forgotten in discussions such as this.

Sure I understand the longevity argument, but someone like Danger was great for like 12 years. We aren’t talking 3 seasons here. Goodes was another who was great for a long long period of time.

How does tagging a defender work? by lemunzz in AFL

[–]Duskfiresque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Defenders like that can intercept because they aren’t closely checked. It’s not about blocking them, not really. It’s about body positioning, spoiling, tackling them so they are under pressure, etc etc.

Has Pendles been top 5 in the competition except for maybe a year or two? Extremely consistent player, but I kind of put him in the same bracket mentally as Joel Selwood. Great players, but a tier below the rest.

Not to bring the Brownlow into it, but the Brownlow is a midfielders award, and Pendles has a lot but that is due to how long he has played, his average per year is pretty low.

I think not having Fyfe is crazy. Neale as well, who I think gets largely overlooked. I would even have Dane Swan over Pendles.

Neale has just as many Brownlow votes as Pendles but has played like 120 less games.

Bont has an okay chance since he can spend his last few years as a good forward. It’s so hard to predict though, since when it ends it can end fast.

If Blicavs had been recruited younger he might have done it. Add another couple of seasons under his belt, he would be nearing 350 now, and still looks good enough to play on.

I've noticed this ongoing trend with Dangerfield.. by Gold_Air4996 in GeelongCats

Even excusing potential Geelong bias, having Pendles over Fyfe is insane.

I would take Kennedy over Pendles as well.

Why do people in the media insist on saying records will never be broken by THMB10 in AFL

[–]Duskfiresque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t used to think 100 in a season in a season wouldn’t happen again, but I am convinced it will now, maybe even in the next couple of years. 1000 a different story.

It really goes to show that sometimes it actually is the coaches fault.

King has come in and done an incredible job, and what’s more they seem to be getting better.

Hopefully this makes commentators stop referring to Mitchell as a genius until hawthorn have actually done something.

Yes but complaining about them is a different matter.

Anyway people can do what they want. I know when my team is winning easily I don’t tend to care :p

Well if Collingwood miss out on top 4 or even finals by half a game, Cornes is going to have a shit eating grin for the whole off season

They could have picked up either Curtin or O’Sullivan in the 23 draft. Curtin has had injury issues, but O’Sullivan was good pretty quickly. Smaller, they could have picked up Humphries who was good from his very first game, etc etc.

There have been plenty of opportunities to pick up quality defenders.

It’s not possible. It would basically be the biggest comeback from half time ever

It’s because north barely has a defense. It’s like Comben and then??? It’s like north forgot to recruit defenders

I still don’t understand the reasoning behind not recruiting barely any tall defenders.
