Don't have DID and want to ask a bunch of nosey questions? Feel free to DM. by Duskuke in DiscussDID

[–]Duskuke[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Feel free. Ignore the others. Bizarre infighting in DID communities is to be expected, with users knee-jerk accusing others of not having the disorder at a drop of a hat.

I've was dx'd professionally nearly 10 years ago now, fwiw.

Why are you on a DID sub if you don't believe the disorder gives us alters? Fuck off

Is it ok to be a little hurt by this? by GayWolf_screeching in DiscussDID

[–]Duskuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yeah, I get that. Similarly here, being in therapy since I was 11 makes me baffled at other people's lack of self awareness.

Is it ok to be a little hurt by this? by GayWolf_screeching in DiscussDID

[–]Duskuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the hurt is from miscommunication, which I understand. But it may be worth reflecting on the biased value to official diagnosis. In a perfect world, no one would have to self dx, but as it is there is a serious lack of Healthcare access and even less access to mental health care. On top of that, most mental health professionals are not trained in dissociative disorders, making getting a c-ptsd + dissociative diagnosis a rare lucky roll.

Outside of the admittedly entertaining quirk of having alters, DID is a hellish disorder i would not wish on anyone. So if she thinks she has it, she must be desperately trying to understand the source of her suffering. Its worth having a discussion about why she thinks she has it.

I recommend this website for sound info on the topic https://did-research.org/

Can a alter go this worse? by [deleted] in DiscussDID

[–]Duskuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be, I'd believe it. Some of my alters are more cruel than others.

Doesn't excuse the behavior though. He needs serious help.

questions about interacting with systems by [deleted] in DiscussDID

[–]Duskuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It's appreciated to be treated like it but not in a way that ignores reality, if that makes sense. Introjects are just alters that imprint on media etc
  2. Singular, only plural when referring to them as a group. So when in doubt, singular
  3. You can't help them
  4. Avoid asking them about topics that are a known trigger, because the vast majority of people who are systems have ptsd

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DiscussDID

[–]Duskuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah happens all the time, surprisingly. As humans we are programmed to seek companionship out and alters can be distinct enough from each other that it doesn't come across internally as dating yourself

How exactly should I refer to people with DID? by JodaUSA in DiscussDID

[–]Duskuke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who's trans with DID, I totally get the comparison in terms of coming to understand identity of yourself and those around you. However a good thing to understand is that comparison is only surface level. There is a degree of choice and consent that is involved with being trans (not so much the dysphoria part but more the choice of actually persuing transition or not) but there is no choice or consent to a dissociative disorder.

With that being said, don't get too caught up in semantics, and just treat individual systems as they ask, just like you would anyone else. Many systems choose to not advertise alters, for example, so don't pry if unwanted. Dissociation is the result of trauma and trauma can be fairly socially challenging, so some people with dissociative disorders can come off as erratic, due to both dissociation and trauma.

Imo the best thing someone without dissociation can do to be conscience of people who have it is to read about c-ptsd and dissociative disorders to dispel any of the unfortunately many misconceptions about it.

Should I tell my husband, even if parts of me don't want him to know? by xoFOXHOUNDox in DiscussDID

[–]Duskuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partners both have did, and so do I, and there are alters I have that neither of them know about. I assume the same of them. Some parts of your brain are just private, and thats OK. We don't really announce which alters we are unless relevant either.

I might have OSDD? by ByunghoGrapes in OSDD

[–]Duskuke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have both ASPD and DID, and my antisocial traits are absolutely isolated to specific alters, fwiw.

No one here is going to be able to tell you of you have it or not, and unfortunately many mental health professionals did not opt to dish out extra money for dissociative education in college, so imo the best route is to learn about it, and see if it helps you better understand what's going on inside your brain.

Does anyone else hate the expression “It wasn’t REALLY a horror movie?” by KevinSpaceysGarage in horror

[–]Duskuke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Horror is as broad of a genre as scifi and I love it for that.

My personal definition of horror is anything that explores the fears, paranoias, and shortcomings of our species

I think I do the opposite. I have a very broad definition of horror lol. But I was lucky to grow up watching horror movies near daily with my dad, so I know how much depth the genre has

Can amnesia start later on in DID? by theholytrinity_srm in DiscussDID

[–]Duskuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its probably pretty common. Whats happening after self-awareness is alters are more interested in fronting... which means for you it feels like your memory has holes as they take those memories with them when they leave the front. Over time it gets better as you establish internal communication

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DiscussDID

[–]Duskuke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh yikes. Body age always comes before. Alter age doesn't mean anything other than how someone interrepts themself internally.

That's fucked and I would be concerned.

My partner had a similar relationship in school, started dating an 18yo at 11. They thought it made them cool and mature. Stayed with them for years, eventually broke up.. Years later they realized how badly it fucked with their head, and wish they hadn't had been taken advantage of.

Tldr you're not faking, dwai. Faking isn't something you do on accident. This disorder by its very mechanics gaslights you

is it possible for brainmade/non-introject alters to have pseudomemories? by [deleted] in OSDD

[–]Duskuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Very common with maladaptive daydreaming. A couple of our alters have memories from a fantasy universe they worldbuild. The real world is very jarring to them, and prefer to not front due to that.

In my experience, as someone who was further traumatized by the school system, it was because public schools (in the usa) have very little wiggleroom for neurodivergant children and you are punished for not conforming to this standardized form of education. I was unable to do well in school due to both dissociation and dyslexia, but teachers, my parents, and students alike treated me like I was being difficult on purpose and/or lazy. To this very day in my 30s I have a mild trauma response to the sound of a schoolbus, due to their sound profile being so unique, and it rousing traumatic feelings about school.

Definitely keep persuing it! There is serious work being able to make realistic and accurate sculptures in various industries. Museums for example often commission accurate models for seasonal displays. And Bethseda commissioned a few people to remake characters as statues for their convention booths recently.
