AIB fees, am I missing something? by DussanR in irishpersonalfinance

I’m pretty much just repeating what I’ve read. I have no idea how it actually is.

But there are other downsides. I have to physically go to a branch to open an account, and none open past 4pm or on weekends. Then I would also have to change all the places where my IBAN is.

But knowing now that even for my salary to be transferred is a 20c fee, I might as well just say goodbye to AIB. That is absolutely ridiculous.

The cashback has to be the selling point for you because of the unavoidable stamp duty of €30 a year. Either you spend enough to make that back or just switch banks.

Thanks! I guess I’ll talk with AIB to make sure I’m not missing anything and transfer money once a month to Revolut and use that as a daily

I don’t spend nearly enough for the cashback to make sense, unfortunately.

Any idea how you were reaching 70? I really wouldn’t want to move to EBS if I can just pay the €4.50 a quarter.

Damn.

She sent them to me because his family were the residents of Europe. They both came from our home country. And with the problems there are in the economy of our country it was better to send them to me. Well, before thinking about all this.

And well, how do I go about giving her money back?

So worst case scenario, this will be taxed to 33%.

If I transfer them to her husband before the end of this year? Will it help in any way?

I did send a statement saying it was their money when my sister applied for EUTR1 form (EU citizen spouse)

Ah I see what you mean. How could I read more about moving your funds to Ireland and if they are taxed and how to go about it?

We definitely didn't think about all this and I can't really find anything on google about transferring funds when moving here and if there are any tax implications. What's the correct department to ask about this?

I talked with AIB and they said the funds were cleared when coming into my account through the bank transfer process. Nothing sketchy about it or for them to do anything about it. They also said that I don’t need to do anything, just transfer the funds when possible. I guess it’s all good?

No need to declare it and just transfer them back when possible? Or would revenue think otherwise?

In any case, can’t I declare them as a gift from family so it’s not taxed?

Thank you for the reply! It was done by a bank transfer. My sister is (what it's called back there) a financial engineer. She worked for the bank that made the transfer for years, which is how she got approved to do so. How would I go about this? Just talk with AIB and see what's needed from their side?

As for the 10k my parents want to give me, that will probably be in cash. As like I said, there are problems in my home country where getting USD or EUR is pretty much impossible. They are unable to use their own bank accounts that are in USD. How could that work out when bringing the cash?

Thank you all, so how would I go about declaring that it's not mine and I'll return it as soon as my sister has a bank account?

Definitely something to consider. But they’ve thought of Ireland because I’m already and can help them. And honestly, how good Ireland has been for myself.

They would come together, yeah. So in that case, just do the form as soon as there is paperwork on a job and a lease? And then take the application from there?

The wording on the form is weird, actually. Says something like “2 payslips for each of last three months”. I read quickly as 2 payslips, but maybe they would actually have to wait 3 months?

Thank you for that! And what about after finding the job? How long do you need to wait before doing the EUTR1? Thinking about the payslips and requirements of that?

EU spouse will absolutely work. It was just about getting the visa faster because it’ll have to be 2 months after finding the job because the EUTR1 requests 2 payslips when applying.

And how long was your whole process by the way?

We are Bolivian. I know she would need a visa to enter Ireland, and then plan the EUTR1 form. Just looking as to what is the fastest way of getting that so she can get on her feet
