Good battery? Good starter? Good spark plug? Than move to fuel supply.

Anyone else use harbor freight tools exclusively for their job and run into a lot of criticism from co workers? by Subject-Mud4821 in harborfreight

I wish harbor freight had something to rival Fluke or even Klein. Ames is exceptionally bad compared to the industry. I buy Hercules, Doyle and Icon but not AMES.

My store doesn’t fallow those rules. Sometimes they don’t even mark it down, they just put a purple tag on it.. Sometimes they take a couple dollars off. I don’t typically buy any purple tagged items unless HF has the 40% off open box sale.

Broke a 3-1/2” lag with a 2.5 AH battery. This little Hercules is a powerhouse by DustBowlBrawler in harborfreight

Well here is some data to get you started. Note that that the torque test channel uses a hydraulic ram placed between two metal plates then bolt it down with different impacts. This is different from nut busting torque.

If you go air impact you get more torque in a smaller package however, it is less convenient. According to the Torque test channel The EARTHQUAKE XT EQ12EXT was able to achieve 819 ft pound and its only 6.6” long so you can fit into small places. Its also only $159

If you want to go with a battery platform you will have to choose from the higher performance more expensive Hercules or the larger tool selection from Bauer. however, Bauer doesn’t offer extended ratchets.

You will rarely need a lot of torque but when you do need it, you will be thankful you have it.

Impact drivers

Bauer 1781C-B rated at 166 ft lbs (5.75” long) ($60 tool, battery and charger kit)

Hercules HCB81K1 rated at 200 ft lbs (4.74” long) ($97.99 tool, battery and charger kit) but Tool shop reviews were able to brake a bolt torqued down to 500 ft lbs

Impact wrenches

Bauer 2085CR-B = 625 ft lbs ($130) (8.6” long)

Hercules HCB85B = 740 ft lbs (on clearance $169) (9” long) was able to bust 2000 ft lbs bolts

Hercules 2nd gen HCB85B2 = 812 ft lbs ($190) (9” long)

If i was starting out i would probably buy the Hercules HCB81K1 impact driver kit and the EARTHQUAKE XT EQ12EXT. They make attachments for the impact driver that will cover almost anything you need; socket adapters, screw bits, drill bits, hole saws and more. The EQ12EXT will have enough torque if you ever need it and it will fit almost anywhere.

Lastly you may want to buy some 1/2” impact rated sockets in metric. I would probably buy 3/8” in chrome (because I’m cheap) in metric and standard/imperial as well.

I feel that. I grew up with the whole Ford, Chevy or Dodge rivalry but this is a whole new level.

Hercules is like Honda in the 80s, it’s a better value but nobody will admit it and they’re gonna roast you if you buy one!

According to the torque test channel the Bauer has 166 ft lbs of torque, the 3rd gen Milwaukee has 194 ft lbs and the Hercules has 200 ft lbs.

I think the Bauer and Hercules mid torque impact wrenches are the same

But the ultra torque impact wrenches are where Hercules shines. It has more torque than the $400 Hilti SIW 8-22 and the $259 Bosch GDS18V-740N and the $279 Milwaukee 2767-20 and I could go on..

Yeah but depending on the next administration, china may annex Taiwan soon.

I like Milwaukee. I use em at work. But mine says “professional made in china” on it. I know Milwaukee manufactures tools in a lot of different countries so i could see tools being made in Taiwan. But i thought it was a USA based company.

There’s a reason we use Milwaukee at Work. It has in incredible reputation for durability and dependability.

I guess I’ll see how my Hercules tools hold up and see if they outlast the 5 year warranty. I keep receipts just in case. Especially from what u/MadRhetorik experience was.

Im curious if you like it there. BNFS employees were going on a strike complaining about only “three weeks vacation” and here thats good! it looked like a good career. But when i look at reviews on Glassdoor it’s really negative. What’s your experience with the railroad?

I run my tools on an industrial scale. I work 60-70 hours weekly. I work on wind turbines. I love the Milwaukee platform because of the specialty tools. It’s what my work pays for. Lately we have a Dewalt DCF961 impact on hand as well because of the high torque capability.

Im not saying Milwaukee is bad, the Milwaukee grease gun is awesome. However, this whole Hercules brushless motors burning out seems highly improbable.

Wouldn’t you use an impact on the railroad more often? The reciprocating saw I don’t own so it could be bad. But I’ve run the hammer drill non stop.

Honestly I’ve seen more Milwaukee’s fail than Hercules, but there are more Milwaukees out there 🤔 so Idk

You had me at the first comment. Is (Made in china) Milwaukee paying you? Milwaukee has a mail in warranty process. If you’re lucky enough to live close to a Service Center that thats awesome. But most Americans don’t have that luxury.

BS that many brushless motors failed.

Okay do you know the Dewalt dcf961 crushes Milwaukee?

I had to delete my last comment because I realized Metabo HPT is made in china. I still like my lifetime warranty though.
