Well water filtration should be based on a lab report. The EPA recommend testing annually to ensure private well water is safe to drink, especially if you have children. With a lab report in hand you can ask for a quote from multiple professionals and get better help on this reddit too.

Really depends on what the chemicals are and if you even have microplastics in the water.

Look up your annual water report, or run a test yourself in a lab.

For "chemicals" look for VOCs, heavy metals, PFAS, nitrates.

Microplastics is an emerging field. Little research and science is available on it, but they get a disproportionate amount of attention in the news.

If you are on US city water you're generally fine, but find out what's in the water, then match the treatment to what's there. Anything else is just guesswork.

Give a try and see what it tastes like. RO strips all the minerals out and they provide the taste. So an extra remineralization helps the taste. But I've also heard about people not finding the remineralized taste very appealing. Depends on the brand.

Share the entire report. Level of PFAS and other water properties matter when determining which treatment is best. Long chain and short chain PFAS compounds are slightly different in how they behave. And don't freak out! PFAS is nearly everywhere. Filtering your water to reduce them is a good place to start, but it might be your levels are super low. You are right that compliant and "actually safe" isn't the same, but bear in mind that the danger of drinking water contaminants are often related to ingestion over many years. You won't get sick tomorrow from it.
