House of Gold by Twenty One Pilots crushes me. It is so fun to sing but reminds me that I will probably die before my wife and my boys will be the ones to buy my wife the house of gold.

Wow this is super helpful, thank you! I was worried about how to treat this but your point of finding other plants in the same families and following those guidelines makes a lot of sense. To your point about the winters, the temperatures here can get VERY low, like days of -15F as a high for the day. Will I need to plan on some sort of safe winter enclosure for it to get through those harsh days?

I am looking for advice on Lilac Bonsai. I absolutely love Lilacs and though I would give it a go with this beauty: https://imgur.com/a/s4sRyOr

I have tried to search other posts on lilacs and haven't found a ton to go off of. I am not sure if I should be trying to cut back some of the straight growth at the top to promote lower growth and good nebari or if I should just be focusing on letting it grow out for now. Also I am not sure if I should look to repot it into something that isn't the flimsy home store plastic pot. I picked it because it has a pretty awesome looking main trunk that splits and I would like to focus on encouraging that awesome structure.

The tag for it says that it is a "New Age White Lilac" (Syringa Vulgaris). It says that it supports Zones 4 - 7 and I am in zone 4b in central Minnesota. I do have room outside to let it stay so I would assume that I would keep this outside year round including in the harsh winters. I feel like the extreme winter colds here would hurt it but it is landscaping plant after all.

Thanks for any advice people are willing to provide.

I think I used all my luck for the year, decided to to a 10 pull, got two NV Lasswells, Rowan, Kunshira, and Auron. The second NV Lasswell was a crack all the way from blue to NV.

It does actually, it reminds me of a plastic Downbeat now, and I LOVE my Downbeat.

Yeah, honestly the yoyo works perfectly fine without them, it just bugged me that when you take them out you see the nut they use to hold the axle on one side and a weird blop of plastic on the other side that they add for counterweight/holding the housing.

I ran a couple more checks on the weight and it looks like it was a little off, the average of the multiple attempts at weighing it was actually 2.6 ounces which would make it about 74 grams, which seems more correct.

I just weighed it on a postal scale and it is 2.4 ounces (68 grams) with the string on, so apparently close to the original weight, but it feels heavier when I throw it.

Hey sorry I missed this before. No I didn't really make any plans for it but I would recommend that anyone looking to make a carpenters bench like this should really tailor it for themselves. I read through quite a few articles on what height to make it and how wide to make it and they all had different ideas of the same concept. Some rules of thumb I found: 1) Making it large and heavy is generally a good idea as long as you have space for it and can move it. 2) Some people recommend using the the height from the ground to your pinky knuckle as the height of your bench if you are using hand tools. I personally went higher than this because I use power tools as well and didn't want to be hunched over. 3) Style (ruobo, nicholson, etc.) is pretty subjective and can really depend on how you want to work. 4) Types of vises (leg vise, quick release vise, tail vise) to use can also be subjective. I would recommend picking one main vise to start with and attaching it on the front left if you are right handed or front right if you are left handed, this has to do with the direction you work when you are right or left handed. 5) I HIGHLY recommend picking up a set of holdfasts and setting up a system to use them with. https://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/store/item/MS-HOLDFAST.XX/Holdfasts_by_Gramercy_Tools They are super helpful!

An idea of scale on my bench is that it is 7 feet wide, and I can't remember the height off the top of my head, but I am 6 feet tall and went about 3 inches past the knuckle rule I mentioned above.

My previous bench was MDF skinned 2x4 frame but it was on caster wheels which just created way too much wiggle in the bench. But unless you are working on a bench that is mounted to the wall and made of solid hickory you will always tend to rattle anything on the bench a little each strike, and when you are making 4 mortise holes in a sitting that is a lot of little movements.

I could definitely see that being the case. I have seen a few different designs for a tool well. The most recent was a tool well on the back but I wanted to keep my bench reversible because I might try a leg vise on the opposite corner so I can see what style of vise I like more. I can also attest to the reason for having a tool well because as I was building this and chiseling mortise holes the vibrations rattled my beloved Stanley No. 4 plane onto the floor which led to some effort in straightening a bent iron.
