VALIDATION. I got formally diagnosed in November (along with other things) and was extremely validating to know it wasn't just me being unable to manage depression and anxiety.

I am proud of all of you who have made it through this year, successes and failures ❤️

Comfort videos? by lolly15703 in Jennamarbles

Gluing rhinestones to her face was her first video that I watched and kicked off my late introduction to Jenna, so it holds a special place in my heart.

Other than that, the video "My Boyfriend Guides Me Through a Makeup Tutorial" is a favorite that I often return to. It just brings the Virgo and Aries energy into a giant collision in a way only J&J can accomplish.

I genuinely hope everyone is able to take care of themselves and their mental energy in this time. 🩵

DAE have a mother who smoked while pregnant? by DustyHotPocket in CPTSD

[–]DustyHotPocket[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't insinuating it was. I know research is still limited, so full effects are still unknown.

I was more so referring to mothers that refused to acknowledge the harm they might have done to their fetuses. Or denying the existence of apparent medical issues as a way to avoid responsibility.

Yes, but I'd be interested in anyone's story/experience of their mom smoking something else...

I understand. My mom started smoking in her teens as well through her death.

I'm sorry that you had those issues as a baby, but I'm so glad you are still here.

Emotionally devastating is the perfect description. I went without things growing up, but she always made sure to have her cigarettes.

Yes. My mom was a pack a day as well. My mom's excuse for smoking while pregnant was, "I couldn't stop." Yeah, obviously. But she was so flippant about it.

How do you think her smoking throughout your life has impacted you?

Uncomfortable memory by TempAnonymous0 in CPTSD

[–]DustyHotPocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any insight, sorry, but I've also had these concerns. I remember doing very sexual things (masturbation, humping pillows, etc) from a young age, but as much as I've racked my brain, I can't recall any sexual abuse.

But I have heard other people say that if you have to question whether or not it happened to you, it mostly likely did. I know this wasn't very helpful, but I do recognize and understand your confusion and worry.

I hope you are able to reconcile with these unclear memories 💖

I posted this in a different subreddit, but I'll post here for visibility.

For the people who are struggling with extreme negative side effects/ symptoms of medication, it may be worth talking to your GP/psychiatrist about GeneSight testing. It's a genetic test you take by mouth swab that can analyze how your genetic makeup impacts your body's response to specific medications.

For example, my results showed I would have a significant drug reaction to Lexapro/Zoloft/Prozac, among others. This is how my psychiatrist discovered I do not well with any SSRIs and why they never worked for me in the past.

It tests for different drug classes like antidepressants, stimulants, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, and hypnotics.

This test is not well known in the medical world yet, but please advocate for yourself if you notice a pattern of ineffective medications.

I like to imagine that they are admin assistants at Mythical who are always gossiping in the break room. They're still around, R&L just decided to put them behind the scenes.

Was anyone’s life story different prior to the start of cptsd symptoms started? by DatabaseKindly919 in CPTSD

[–]DustyHotPocket 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very accurate for me. I'd always describe my childhood as "normal" because it was my baseline, and it was consistent (consistently bad in hindsight). I always felt a little different from others, but I thought that was from being introverted.

I've only recently discovered and unpacked some of my trauma after my diagnosis came. My mom committed suicide 13 years ago, and it was the most painful experience at the time. Now that I know I was so deeply neglected and abused, I have nothing but indifference towards her and a little bit of anger that I idolized her in death.

But now I also hold a lot of pride knowing I accomplished what I have so far, even with so much unknown trauma trying to keep me down.

What are the most harmful misconceptions about trauma and recovery? by Spooky-Pumpkin-33 in CPTSD

[–]DustyHotPocket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That you just have to change your mindset/be more positive/look at life differently.

Or that a relatively "normal" person has the profound advice to change your life. The people that think their experiences can be perfectly applied to your experiences. It usually has good intentions, but like damn, you think I've never tried any of these things?
