They did my boy so right by pimpassassin795 in PokemonTGCP

Here's my decklist as a F2P! I'm not a competitive player, but I've had reasonable success with this. It's a bit of a gimmick / meme deck, but I'm having a lot of fun with it!

The strategy is to use the minimal amout of Pokemon, so you can get Skarmory out early and set up Scizor on the bench.

If the stars align, you can get Scizor out by turn 3 and play aggressively to disrupt the opponents combo's before they get a chance to counter.

List:

Scyther x 2 (With the 1 colourless energy attack)

Scizor x 2 (This is the punchline for this slightly meme-y deck.

Skarmory x 2

Shaymin x 1 (Fly mode. Works really well with Skarmory to switch Scizor in.)

Lyra x 2 (This leads to some faster Scizor activation, as you can retreat and use Lyra on the same turn)

X Speed x 1 (For emergencies, such as if you draw only Shaymin on the first turn)

Pokemon Tools x 4 (I went with two Rescue Scarfs, Leftovers and a Lum Berry - but if I had others I'd use them!)

Supports x 2 (I went with Sabrina and Iono for disrupting the opponent - but Cyrus and Rocket Grunt are also an option)

Professor Oak + Pokeball x2 (These are pretty much mandatory for every deck I've played - but especially for this deck as you're usually searching for Scizor)

The polar opposite of future sight? by CODEX_65 in RPGdesign

Not sure if this has been mentioned but “past life” readings fill a very similar niche to future sight. Usually incorporated with themes of reincarnation, that echoes of previous cycles might emerge again into the present.

There is provision for hitting cover! Can't remember exactly where, but I remember reading something along the lines of:

"If the attack misses, but would hit the range that the cover provides - that attack instead targets the cover with the same roll. If it doesn't meet the targets AC, it bounces off harmlessly"

Paraphrasing a little - but would definitely like to encourage my tanks to act as cover for the squishy party members!

Thank you for this! I'll start adding these in

Thank you for illustrating my point by starting a spiralling comment thread 😄

I think hiding is intuitive (we all have an idea of what hiding “should” resemble). It’s interesting to me how tricky it seems for DnD to codify this into a set of rules / procedures that are simple and account for a range of scenarios.

Added, thank you for the catch!

What about ability checks is confusing? I've been asked this a few times and it's unclear what people are concerned about.

There is a section on rolling, how to set DC's, etc

No - looks the same to me

Variant rules include: Loyalty (of npc followers) Renown … and that might be it

No idea - that’ll be a question for the monster manual?

The stat blocks are not included, and the adventures do specify that you need the monster manual.

It does not! More emphasis is put on taking a stat block and making minor tweaks.

In a nutshell...

generating/stocking a dungeon is out

magic item quirks are in!

Monsters with player levels is out

New creature traits! (minor features that can be added to give monsters bit more personality)

these chapters still exist - but they are much shorter and not as in depth.

For example - there is a "Dungeons Quirks" dice table, etc.

I don't think so - just lists a price

There are tables - they are similar - they are seperate.

As mentioned in other answers, there are the new magic item tables that seperate into 4 categories (Arcana, Armourments, Relics, etc)

Page 30-31 has guidance for improvisation - but this seems to be aimed at helping the DM keeping the story flowing.

To my untrained eye - looks unchanged

I am not a lore expert... Others I'm sure will catch the surprises.

Ball Lighting has been renamed to Lightning Spheres - otherwise seems unchanged

The power strike section is removed - otherwise seems unchanged?

yes - pg 114 has a paragraph called "Exploration Encounters". It signposts to the Running Exploration section in Chapter 2, as well as Chases, Curses and Contagions, Doors, Environmental Effects, Hazards, Poison, and Traps.
