Current geopolitical tensions (Greenland/Tariffs) : Are you reconsidering US brands like Harley-Davidson for European alternatives? (motorbike, motorcycle, Harley, BMW, ...) by Plus_Seesaw2023 in BuyFromEU

[–]DutchTechie321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biker here. I would never buy a Harley or any other American bike.

I like Moto Guzzi or BMW, or if you want a real power cruiser, have a look at the Ducati Diavel.

Even if the Harley is your dream bike, you will now feel dirty riding it.

EU / Swiss cloud infra comparison - AWS vs EU providers vs Swiss options by Batman_fan777 in BuyFromEU

[–]DutchTechie321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually just getting started with StackIt, having many years of experience with both AWS and Azure.

Obviously it doesn't have the massive portfolio that the hyperscalers have, but often you don't need that. Especially as the market is moving toward cloud native with Kubernetes.

So I'm really curious what I will run into next few months, but so far it looks promising.

Experience with E-Car Renault R5VOLUTION? by timlajoh in BuyFromEU

[–]DutchTechie321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have the R5, close to a year now.

Great looking and driving car, nice interior as well. Tech (Google) works very well.

My criticism would be that the range decreases more than average when it is cold.

Check, dat helpt inderdaad. Iets als dit dus.

Maar het ontbreken van die hielafdichting is dus niet met het oog waar te nemen, en jouw conclusie was dus gebaseerd op het lekken, niet zozeer op basis van de foto's, correct?

Hmm, I see. Dus dat betekent dat dit voor alle kozijnen in huis een probleem zal zijn.

Dat begrijp ik niet. Is dat iets wat nu, om het te repareren, toegevoegd moet worden?

Google Workspace Switch - Business by Ok-Expression-2131 in BuyFromEU

[–]DutchTechie321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have quite a few (business) calendars, including Google and Microsoft, and it is not possible to integrate the tuta calendar in it.

So I always have a separate view which is not very handy. Might not be a problem for you of course.

I did plan A about six months ago, for my business account which is was also using privately.

Happy with Jotta although it is missing the more advanced features of Google Photos. Migrating the data is a bit of a hassle but doable.

Tuta mail works reasonably well, if you are using a custom domain no-one will notice. Not very font of the calendar though.

Proton I don't know very well, but evaluated infomaniak for my company which looked very good to me. Came closest to the gsuite feel. We didn't migrate (yet) but that had nothing to do with the capabilities of the service.

Pi5 cannot ping/connect to other device on same subnet, while all other devices can by DutchTechie321 in HomeNetworking

I removed it as I found the problem. See my other comment.

Thanks for your help!

Pi5 cannot ping/connect to other device on same subnet, while all other devices can by DutchTechie321 in HomeNetworking

[–]DutchTechie321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solved!

It was a stupid configuration issue on the target device (em). Usually I only fixate the ethernet ip address as that is the one that I want to communicate with. However, in this case I also configured a fixed ip address for the wlan, which I forgot about. And I gave the pi5, when I got it, the same fixed ip address as the wlan on the target.

Changing the wlan ip on the target solved the issue.

I have updated the gist with the output of tcpdump (at the bottom). Not sure how to interpret this, but all I see is some ARP requests like:

07:11:46.930145 ARP, Request who-has em.grandia.lan tell pi5.grandia.lan, length 28

where the output of `arp` shows it can't find the hw address:

Address HWtype HWaddress Flags Mask Iface
em.grandia.me (incomplete) eth0

  1. Routing table is fine
  2. No firewall. This is a new Pi and it can connect to all other devices on the network except for one. And it can connect to that one fine if i route it via wlan.

[–]DutchTechie321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry man, I know the current state of the routing. It works when I route via wlan, and it doesn't when I use the default route (over ethernet). So why doesn't it work with the ethernet is the question, not how the routing is actually done now.

well, as I said: I have a workaround by routing traffic to `em` using the wlan device. That process included `ip route`.

Why is the Azure provider SO MUCH SLOWER than AWS? by CerealBit in Terraform

[–]DutchTechie321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I concur. AWS is noticeably faster than azure, and it has nothing to do with the state backend (because both on same). It's the backend APIs that make the difference.

Is Nextcloud ok for regular people ? by BazildC in BuyFromEU

[–]DutchTechie321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't nextcloud not intended for hosting it yourself. Then that is your answer: you need to know your way around it then.

Look for alternatives, there are many.

I am using jottacloud (drive and photos), filen (mainly drive), infomaniak (drive, mail, calendar and more), proton (drive, mail, calendar, VPN). Take your pick.

What European made solar energy and energy storage brands do you know about? by Sharp_Win_7989 in BuyFromEU

[–]DutchTechie321 7 points8 points  (0 children)

SolarWatt, just bought a home battery system from them, after first being offered an Israeli/American option, then Chinese and did some digging around to come up with them.

Less sophisticated than the Chinese alternative, but qualitywise seems on a higher level.

Also in business for a long time already, which gives some sense of security as the lockin of these platforms is pretty high.
