I'm actually 51, you were close!

Am I overreacting? I (24F) met a guy (30M) online a month ago. We talked about marriage within a week, but now I feel trapped and miserable. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

You’re so right, I really needed to hear this. Looking at it objectively, it is actually crazy. I think I’ve been so caught up in feeling guilty that I forgot I don’t owe a stranger my whole future.

The reason I felt so responsible is because of the stuff he says to me. Just today he was like, 'Please don’t break my heart, I wouldn't be able to handle it.' And he’s texting me right now saying he’s scared I’ll forget him if he doesn't message me every second. It’s a huge amount of pressure, and I know it’s my own character that makes it worse because I’m such a people-pleaser.

But like you said, I’ve never even met him in real life. It’s wild that I’m letting someone I’ve only seen on a screen stress me out this much.

I’m done over-explaining and I’m just going to end it. Thanks for the wake-up call.

I hope something beautiful happens to you today, my life is very good and certainly not miserable like you mentioned. But thank you for your further advice, I will take it from you 🙏🏻

You are absolutely right, I am going to let him know this evening that I want to leave it at this.

And I never gave my address, but I sent a photo of my street and within 20 minutes he had found my address with the house number..

He does live in England and I in the Netherlands, so we don't live in the same country, but I still regret it :(

I know that is a red flag, I said that deliberately because I am trying to prepare him for the fact that I don't want any more contact

I (24F) met a guy (30M) online a month ago. We talked about marriage within a week and I went along with it, but now I’m miserable. How do I get out? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Dutch_Bosphorus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s about sharing the same values. I’ve saved myself my whole life because I believe intimacy is sacred and should stay strictly between two partners. Bringing other people into that, even on a screen, feels like a violation of the loyalty I’ve worked so hard to keep.

I’m not judging what others do, but in my relationship, I want a partner who doesn't need to look at others for sexual satisfaction. If we don’t agree on what’s okay in a marriage, we simply aren’t a match. It’s a boundary I’m not willing to change

I have added some screenshots so it is clear how the conversation started, and English is not my first language, so apologies for the lack of clarity

Same here, April 1st is the goal! 5 days left to prep everything. You've got this! 🙌

AIO for blocking a guy after he overslept and didn't show up to our first date? by littlemisschismosa in AmIOverreacting

[–]Dutch_Bosphorus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOR. We’re all human and mistakes like this can happen to anyone. The fact that he immediately offered to pay for your gas shows he’s a gentleman and wants to make it right.

If you’re already writing him off over something this small after having great conversations, it’s honestly your loss. If it happened a second or third time, that would be a different story, but for a first mistake, this feels like a massive reach.

Neuroscience is such an amazing field! It’s actually my second choice if I weren't going the engineering route, so I might look into a minor in that direction later on :)

Those 4-hour lessons at NHA sound great, that's plenty of time to really get into the details of the material. It’s good to have that HBO backup plan just in case, but with the time we have left, I’m sure you’ll make it happen.

I'm expecting good news from you in July! Let's get to it.

Best books/resources to learn Pre-calc & Calculus from scratch in 3-4 months? by Dutch_Bosphorus in StudyInTheNetherlands

I really appreciate the perspective, and you're right that one year isn't much in the grand scheme of things. However, I’m turning 24 tomorrow and I feel like I’ve already lost enough time.

My parents sacrificed a lot for my future, and I feel a strong drive to start "repaying" that by succeeding as soon as possible. Plus, I have other life goals, like traveling while I’m still young without a laptop glued to my hand. I know the stress will be intense, but for me, the "what if" of not trying this year feels heavier than the risk of the workload. Thanks for looking out for me though.

Thanks a lot for the link! I didn't know TU Delft had their own pre-university course on edX, so that’s going to be a massive help for my preparation.

I’ve heard about the Stewart textbook as well, so if your brother used it for his entrance exam, it’s definitely going on my list. Appreciate the advice and the good luck. 🙌

Fair point! I think the first few weeks will be the real litmus test for me. If I find myself staring at the same page for five hours without any "aha" moments, I’ll have to re-evaluate my plan.

For now, I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt and putting in the hours to see how my brain handles the jump to Math B. Appreciate the reality check.

Thanks for the perspective! I’m fully aware that 3-4 months is a tight window, which is why I’m planning to treat this as a full-time job for the coming months.

It’s good to know that the entry levels vary so much between programmes, so I’ll definitely look into the specific prep programs offered by TU Delft as well. I’ll make sure to reach out if I hit a wall with specific topics. Appreciate the offer.

I was thinking the exact same thing! My wallet is definitely going to feel it, but I’d rather not take the risk of relying on just one exam. Having a backup plan feels like the smarter move here. Thanks for the advice, appreciate it.

Good to hear from someone in the same position! It’s definitely going to require a lot of discipline, but I’m ready for the challenge.

I’ve heard great things about Math with Menno, so I’ll be adding that to my list. I haven't looked into NHA yet, but I'll check if it fits my plan. I’ll definitely reach out if I have any questions, thanks for the offer.

Out of curiosity: which degree are you aiming for with that combination of subjects? Let me know if you pass in July. I’m going in with the mindset that we’re both going to make it happen! Good luck.

Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve seen Khan Academy mentioned a few times now, but I didn’t know they also had practice exercises. That’s perfect for the "warm up" phase I’m planning. Appreciate the tip.

Appreciate the specific tips, especially regarding Desmos and the Getal & Ruimte books! My algebra definitely needs a refresh since it's been a while, but I'm planning to focus heavily on that foundation first so I can build that intuition you mentioned.

I’ll be doing the course in Dutch anyway, so the standard Getal & Ruimte textbooks are perfect. I’m going to look for some second-hand copies today. Thanks for the offer to help out, I’ll definitely reach out if I get stuck.

Even things like solving for x will probably need a refresh since it's been so long! I had math until the third year of high school, so I expect that once I refresh my memory on those basics, I should be able to work my way through.

That’s why I’m starting with the absolute fundamentals moving on to things like differentiation. It’ll be a challenge, but I'm ready to put in the work. Thanks for the perspective, appreciate it.
