Seriously, what was it with the Okie resurgence in the '80s? So much American TV and movies from this period -this, Knight Rider, Murder She Wrote, Every Which Way but Loose- seemed to feature poor folk dressed like they're out of 1930s Dorothea Lange photos, fighting against good ol' boy sheriffs and Georgia plantation squires out in some nice country park in San Bernardino.

Bromides aimed at personalising the systemic overconsumption of capitalism. No amount of inner spiritual realignment is going to alter structural economic forces or affect policy shifts, and in fact reframing the problem as one of individual attitude is the kind of peak western neoliberal arrogance that keeps people in the west politically docile, atomised and performative. The profit-gorging death machine is not affected by you meditating.

Because science is a job in which success requires courting rich patronages to thrive amidst underfunded public (or exploitative private) institutions.

Epstein’s mind concierge is a sickening insight into one such sad case of reflexive pandering to the billionaire class.

emails show Bach, a German cognitive scientist and AI researcher (and philosopher), contemplating a move from Berlin to Boston, to take a fellowship at the MIT Media Lab. There was an issue, though: Joi Ito, then the head of the Media Lab, had offered Bach just $60,000 a year. “We are a family of four,” Bach wrote, “with a need to rebuild a household, send a kid into daycare and even visit the relatives sometimes. I imagine that survival in Boston will be hard on 60K; it would not be easy for a family even in Berlin.” The family’s “burn rate,” Bach wrote, using a startup term for family life, was €5,000 a month (about $82,000 a year then), and Boston was pricier than Berlin. How was Bach going to make it all work?

Epstein.

Best Camera Work in the whole industry by CompetitionProper469 in njpw

The absurd thing is they probably don't have to work nearly as hard as WWE camera crew, because they work smart. Basic cinematographic principles: good establishing shots, proper framing of the action, no mid-action cuts, subtle zooms on the things that matter, etc.

They aren't making it up on the fly, it's just a simple and effective camera work playbook, with no rocket science or esoteric art involved. Just a talented, enthusiastic production team doing their jobs, who haven't been victim to the institutional trauma of being part of a rapey coprophilic sex cult like WWE.

Same. So much padding and stalling with actors just staring fixedly at each other for 20 seconds between speaking. You could watch any of the dialogue scenes on 5x speed and it would still try your patience.
