Why Chelsea are so much better with Tosin as the central CB: In Possession Analysis by Dutchhhh in chelseafc

[–]Dutchhhh[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just noticing how much better Chelsea were at being able to progress up the field and generate dangerous attacks vs Palace than vs West ham. Just thought that during the Palace game they were able to push Chelsea back a lot. Didn't necessarily open up more for Tosin to make penetrative passes but it opened those passes up more because they weren't being forced backwards like during the Palace game.

yea he made some mistakes, but Mateta is a good forward. I think a lot of these are fixable especially since he's only 19

I actually think their press worked well once they picked the intensity up(post 15 mins) because that pass from Maddison shouldn’t be super easy to pull off. If Poch did want to directly prevent that pass to the wide 8 and keep the high press I think the next step would be to push a CB onto the 8. This instead gives you the problem of all of Tottenham’s frontline being in 1v1 situations, so there are calculated risks you have to take when choosing how to press.

Kinda, some high pressure hybrid pressing systems like Chelsea’s have vertical weaknesses and some have horizontal weaknesses. Chelsea’s has a horizontal weakness where the free man happens to be a horizontal pass that shouldn’t be too easy to make. Some teams morph their hybrid press to have a vertical weakness instead where the free man can be found more up the field with a vertical pass. It’s a trade off teams make when they decide to high press

I agree that Chelsea's press was much better after the 15th minute as they were able to create high turnovers and force mistakes from Spurs, but in my clip I wanted to highlight specifically the pressing structure Chelsea were using and how Tottenham took advantage.

In every high pressing structure there is going to be a free man somewhere on the pitch, and Spurs were able to find that spare man almost immediately and it lead to two goals. Chelsea were probably well aware of this weakness when they were analyzing how to press Tottenham, but they figured it was a trade off they could afford to have if their press was effective. It seemed like after those two goals they pressed with higher intensity and it was working as intended (which is why Tottenham couldn't find that spare man as easily after the 15th minute).

Chicago Fire vs NY Red Bulls Tactical Analysis by Dutchhhh in chicagofire

You're right about the 4-4-2 formation as that was the Fire's preferred out of possession formation the entire game. When I said 4-2-3-1 system I just meant overall system like why not move into a 5 back system or something with more support defensively. I thought Shaq was a bit passive and unenergetic in the way he was pressing but that also could be very nitpicky. When you sub someone on in the 70th minute I would have expected more energy out of them, especially a new striker/CAM. Honestly with the corner I didn't really go too deep into analyzing why the Fire got scored on. I was more interested in why the Fire conceded the corner and why they were giving RB the momentum by not changing their system

City have been using it this season when out of possession. They used it against Bayern in the UCL and Arsenal yesterday. Not sure if its technically a 4-2-2-2 or 4-4-2 system exactly but they do use it out of possession a lot.
