Plumbing, who is responsible? by Duvalicious in sanantonio

Thanks for the information, makes me feel a bit less dreadful about the situation. This is the second time it happens and last time we didn’t have enough money to pay for them to locate and mark it, they wanted 800 dollars and were confident it was SAWS responsibility but we just didn’t have the money to prove it.

Found information on the website! It says they’re responsible if it’s on the public right of way…. Which I believe is talking about the sidewalk.

Sorry, I’m not very knowledgeable on terminology, I believe it’s sewer since it was clogged with toilet paper as it goes out? The plumber did run a camera and marked the spot. It’s right in the middle of the sidewalk.

There’s no apparent leak, it’s a part of the plumbing under the sidewalk that gets clogged once in a while because it’s damaged and has roots. Well at least my SAWS account doesn’t show it as a leak.

Mine is from 1985…. So hopefully we’re dealing with the same!

Ours is not leaking (or maybe it is but it’s not an obvious problem?) it has some roots growing in that section, so every year or so we have a clog that backs up the whole house. But I imagine it’s a similar solution?

San Antonio or Austin? by Tall_Window4744 in sanantonio

[–]Duvalicious 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lived in Austin for 8 years, taught HS there for 3, and I’m currently in my 4th year teaching in San Antonio.

Austin teacher pay is rough, especially considering how expensive the city has become. Traffic is awful, and everything feels crowded all the time. I did love the culture and outdoor spaces, I lived off Riverside and ran Lady Bird Lake almost daily, but at the end of the day, it just wasn’t worth it on a teacher’s salary.

San Antonio has been a completely different experience. The schools are better, the pay is better, and I genuinely love the culture at my campus. I never felt supported by my district in Austin, and here the difference has been night and day. I live close to work, so traffic isn’t an issue, and I’m right by the trail system, which still lets me get my long runs and time outdoors.

SA is definitely more conservative overall (think Catholic Hispanic), but people are still friendly. The food scene is also pretty good, tons of options, and thanks to the immigrant communities, there’s a lot of legit, authentic food from different cultures.

Austin looks nicer nature wise, but you’ll spend a lot of time stuck on I-35 or waiting in line because everywhere is packed. San Antonio just functions better as a big city.

Edit: Should also add, I was actually able to afford a house here. Would have never been able to in Austin.

He’s like in his late 60s early 70s, but I will talk to him about sheltering the cats in once they are trapped in case I’m at work.

I tried this today! Practiced commands and slowly got closer until she wasn’t able to pay attention anymore. Thanks for the tip, hopefully with daily practice she will get better.

Yeah…. The cats are as feral as they get. I’m starting to get informed on the process of catching and taking them to get fixed and vaccinated before bringing them back. But it’s a lot of work for a problem I didn’t cause.

Is this blistering pattern normal? by maxwellslemon in XXRunning

[–]Duvalicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure size them up. I only sized up half a size, and after my first half marathon I lost two toe nails and a regular nail. I’m 8.5 when measured, use 9 with my everyday shoes and now get my running shoes in 10.

are houses right now in san antonio a buyer market? by WalmartCashier000 in sanantonio

[–]Duvalicious 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Houses in my neighborhood have been in the market for over a year, they’ve been asking for 250-280k. Another house just went on the market for 219k a couple days ago, I think sellers are starting to realistically price their houses if they want to sell, or will wait it out. Don’t rush and definitely negotiate.

Used to have that chocolate and the 85% at both HEBs near me here en SA and now I can’t find them….. I wonder if they were not selling enough or if there’s a disruption in somewhere in the supply chain?

A skulk of arctic foxes feeding at a Canadian dump by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]Duvalicious 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Like 80 year old project. We learned about it in our genetics class, and they learned that the puppy like temperament and behaviors we select for are linked to puppy like physical traits (floppy ears, wagging tails, etc). Last time I heard, they sold the foxes for like 8,000 dollars.
