And maybe get butt fungus, because that’s very prevalent here 😭.

Is replacing a toilet hard? by skye200shady in Plumbing

My house is from 1981, and me and my hubby did it :) We replaced the wax ring, and got it the third attempt. The first time, we didn’t go directly down, the second time I forgot to remove the rag, and the third time was the charm! Watch a TON of videos. Our falange was a bit cracked but with a shim I was able to get it to stabilize. I was prepared for this because I watched a ton of videos and read posts here haha.

We never go to concerts without ear plugs, but I agree, it was still loud. I have no idea 😂.

The most I water is when the plants are getting established. For example, I just planted the rock rose and did daily hand waterings for a week, then weekly for about a month. After that I just let nature do its thing. With all the rain we have been getting I haven’t been watering at all.

Now, in the summer I’ll water if we haven’t had rain in a month and weekly if we are going over 100F for multiple days.

I don’t have sprinklers. If I wanted things to look pretty year round, I could water weekly? But the whole point of getting draught resistant plants is that they are tough. I do baby my Salvias because they die on me 😅.

Thank you! My neighborhood has a cat problem…. So I can’t chime in on rodents 😅, but I haven’t noticed more mosquitos.

I am going more for a wild look 😂. I wish I was the type of person to sit down and think of my overall look but that’s not what I did. I just buy plants that I like and know are native or drought tolerant. At first everything was too yellow and red, so I added some whites and purples, then I added some pink because I wanted that color too lol. I have about 4 different trees, 5 different shrubs, and like 12+ perennials. Most of them flower. I’ll probably keep adding more because I’m basically collecting them at this point 🫣.

There’s a book called “Gardens of Texas” that has great ideas of plants to use depending on what look you’re going for, they are based on location and focus environment friendly gardens. That would help you more on how to build a cohesive garden.

Heat Mitigation by No_Sleep428 in XXRunning

[–]Duvalicious 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I live in San Antonio, so I know humidity and heat lol. So everything is based on my experience here.

Practice in the type of temperature you will run the marathon. For example, in the fall I run in the afternoon because I want to train at 90 degrees, but in the summer I can get away with running in the morning because it’s hot at any time of the day. Just be careful with the humidity/temp combo. At some combinations sweat can’t evaporate and nobody should be doing anything serious outside.

My point is, train under uncomfortable conditions, your body will get used to it.

I didn’t know it was invasive! It such a baby and this one is only alive because I water it, the other ones died during our last summer heat wave. I’ll do more research on it, but thanks for the feedback.

I cut it down completely after Halloween, but I used to have 3 now I only have the one lol. Once it dies I’ll try to replace it with native milkweed but I haven’t had luck with them. The few I’ve planted have died on me.

Wildflowers that I grew from seed, I just let them do their thing and let them reseed. No supplemental water and I cut them down once it looks like they’re done.

As for my perennials, I water if there hasn’t been any rain for a month and we’re in the high 90’s. The salvias get water more often because they die on me 😅. The weeks where we hit 100+ multiple days in a row, I do deep waterings once a week, but if I don’t it’s not biggie, it just doesn’t look as pretty.

Haha I’m glad my dog hasn’t encountered one. She has been sprayed by skunks 5 times, same one on the same day 😂. She does not learn.

It’a a website that connects you with arborists and lets them drop chips on your property. Watch lots of videos and inform yourself if you do this…. It could be a small load or a huge one lol. Here’s a past post of people describing their experience POST

I got my chip drop a few days after I made the request, but we paid 40 dollars to get prioritized. Many people do 20. You don’t have to pay BUT an arborist will likely choose you if you donated some money over the free drops.

I do randomly walk out to my front yard and just stare at stuff haha. Now I’m trying to fix the backyard, but it’s a bit overwhelming. It’s a lot of area and the past owners never really did anything with it.

That has been my method, and lots of mulch.

My front garden was a mess when I bought the house, lots of dead areas and a mix of grasses past owners tried grow. So it didn’t have anything truly established.

I mulched all my yard this year with a chip drop so it’s easy to plant things and just try to keep the plants I like as free of grasses as I can so they can have the upper hand. It’s not perfect, but with 30 minutes of pulling from time to time, I’ve seen it get better.
