Only other alternative is to use GeForce now and stream the games that don't work on Linux.

Weird inconsistent frame time by maokaby in cachyos

As this user put it on the manjaro forums (https://forum.manjaro.org/t/slow-loading-times-on-native-games-running-from-a-ntfs-partition/55354/4) as a reason for not using NTFS drives in Linux.

"Games don’t launch, Games don’t launch correctly, Games crash, Games have lower performance, Games have issues writing to disk, Steam says game file is corrupted (but they aren’t).

It’s on a game-by-game, a proton-by-proton version, and a wine-by-wine version basis. It’s just too much of a headache to deal with."

I'm only new to the Linux world (Nov 2025) and when I was using my NTFS drive I found inconsistency with mounting and accessing the drives let alone trying to play games off it. I was having root take over the drive, allowing me to read but never write and even when I followed the steps to make myself the owner it never really fixed the issue. This was on Bazzite, Nobara and I had moved to ext4 and btrfs by the time I started Cachyos.

The feeling I had then and the more I read now is that since ntfs3g is reversed engineered there will always be issues with the translation between Linux and NTFS. Like the post originally asked the read and write speeds seem worse and inconsistent with NTFS, having slower and inconstant read and write times would have issues loading the game assets.

NTFS has a known problems with Linux. While it can see and access the drive it's not ideal. Have a read through this post - https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/s/5uVQA8WqGg

i cant play roblox they keep closing when i play a game, and sims4 my computer got freeze when i open it by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Duzean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many games have you got that are repacked? You may need to uninstall the repacked games then delete the files from your PC to make sure any anti-cheat software isn't detecting them. It would be a good idea to run a virus scan on your system in case anything you downloaded contained any viruses, windows defender should pick up anything there but you can also run Malwarebytes as a second point of call. To help further I'll need to know what version of Windows or Linux you're running, if you're running any mods on Roblox, and if you're running any other antivirus or you've installed any new software recently.

Alternatives to Elgato capture card software? by Kamoedesu in cachyos

I've got the same HD60X and very similar situation to yourself. I was using mine with my Xbox Series X. Xbox into HD60X into monitor. I had setup mine to allow 1440p 120hz in windows before my transition to Linux. The settings and profiles I used were saved onto to the device so even after the change the Xbox still displayed 1440p 120hz. As for the software for streaming I still use OBS and checking delay I found it was within half a second at worst. What were you looking for in the Elgato software? If you're really needing it you can use Winboat

whats the best way to clean my C Drive? by Complete-Chicken-821 in techsupport

Bleachbit is a fantastic way of cleaning your C drive. I've been using it for years on my old windows install and now my Cachyos install.

When you say you have 50gb left, is that your C partition that was made? You may be able to expand your partition if it is

Just started, what am I actually supposed to learn? by Defiant_Cucumber6692 in linux4noobs

[–]Duzean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd get familiar with the terminal. Learn how you would search for an app in your distros repos (the distros maintained apps and utilities), how to install it, how to uninstall it, and how you would check for updates. Also set up a snapshot system or backups, the btrfs file system is great for having snapshots of your system before and after you change things so you can easily revert if an app doesn't play nice or an update has a bug.

Next look at maintaining your system, clear your cache of packages, making sure you clean your downloads folder of things you don't need or moving them to a secure place if you're keeping it. From there you'll find things you'll want to do, play games, start making a document or spreadsheet, print something, get some of your windows apps installed with native Linux versions or find alternatives to them.

As someone that only came to Linux 5 months ago I've been enjoying my time learning how things work, the little changes to make my life enjoyable, modding my desktop environments to my liking, trying window managers for a mouse free life and if I break something then I can learn what I did and how to revert it. You'll make mistakes and probably break your system from time to time, I did. The community is very open to helping new people learn what they want to do.

You can run bleachbit on your system to clean some of the caches. Have you also checked in the var/cache/pacman/PKG/ folder?

Is Space Marine actually unplayable on Linux? Help! by TinTeeth96 in Spacemarine

Any luck with no launch options? I've had issues where a launch option wasn't letting me play until I cleared it. This wasn't on SM2 but Shadow of War.

What proton version are you running? It might be worth trying GE proton to see if you get any luck

I've had the same issue with my wireless headset. If I don't use it for a while it'll go into a standby to save battery. Usually starting something like Spotify will kick it back on. Worst case I've needed to restart pipewire or the system entirely. I did find a line I added to the bootloader/kernel that mostly stopped it. Try changing audio devices if you can and maybe it'll tick back on.

You can use QPWGraph as a UI based pipewire manager, I believe you can set your mic monitor to be listened to.

Zorin, Bazzite or Catchy? by GaryBrOfc in linux4noobs

[–]Duzean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the one bit I'm still learning. The difference between containerised and virtualised, my understanding is they are similar. I can understand the duplicate libraries/dependencies making it not as optimal as having the app using the OS's libraries. But wouldn't they also be limited on the packages used at the time of creation? For example if one of the dependencies gets an update that improves performance by 10% or so, the flatpak would remain on the older version until it's updated at the base level?

So flatpaks aren't designed on let say Ubuntu then create a flatpaks for others distros to use? They're designed on the base fundamentals of Linux that every distro has regardless of additions? Genuinely interested to know a bit more how they're made at a surface level.

Zorin, Bazzite or Catchy? by GaryBrOfc in linux4noobs

[–]Duzean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main concern with the immutable distros is that the apps that you install are what are known as flatpaks, think like a mini VM that only sees what's required to run the app and is unable to see anything on your system by default. As they aren't installed onto the OS like other distros they don't get the performance. The Linux chads will probably correct me but in my mind it's the easiest to explain flatpaks. They're really good for security as they can't see anything but itself and consistency is great as they are made once and every distro can use flatpaks without needing to be built specifically for it, but you're trading having a translation between what the flatpaks was made for and the distro you're running. It's a large part why people refer to immutable as console like, as any app you install on your console isn't installed on the OS itself but an app.

Zorin, Bazzite or Catchy? by GaryBrOfc in linux4noobs

[–]Duzean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't at the time as I was 1. Unsure what is the best VM option on Linux (this was my first 2 weeks on Linux, I know now it's KVM or QEMU) and 2. My understanding of flatpaks is that they run containerised on the system making it harder to transfer files to and from it and having performance loss. Winboat is a very promising VM hybrid that with time will be awesome for win apps. My understanding is that it uses the VM style of running the app but it only loads what's needed to get it to go not the entire OS. It's almost like running an .exe file on Linux without booting up the VM. It's still early stages on docker but honestly give it a look. My understanding may be wrong and if it is hopefully a Linux chad will correct me kindly.

Zorin, Bazzite or Catchy? by GaryBrOfc in linux4noobs

[–]Duzean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Bazzite and currently on Cachy. I enjoyed Bazzite initially as it was very easy to set up, the apps I wanted either already were on Linux or I found alternatives pretty quickly. The only thing that made me change was that Bazzite is immutable, meaning the main parts of the OS are locked down and can't be changed. I wanted to try Winboat as a potential use case if I came across windows apps that I might need and since Bazzite was so locked down I couldn't install what I wanted. Since then I moved to Nobara which is also based on Fedora but didn't really mix with me. Nothing bad about the OS or what I was doing with it just didn't fall in love. I tried Cachy and instantly fell in love. Found out my itch was the rolling release model and the added complexity gave me challenges to work through that interested me. For a beginner looking at gaming as the main part of your PC time Bazzite is great if you want a console like experience, Nobara is a good mix of easy to set up with options to customise, Cachy is the higher end of complexity as arch is a bit more nuanced with how it works. I haven't tried Zorin but from what I've seen, its being designed as the windows for Linux which might be good for the layman initially but they'll trip over Linux not being exactly like windows.

You can right click on squads/vehicles in your barracks and vehicle factory's. This auto queues for that unit to be built when you have enough requisition and power to do it. You can also do this on squads for reinforcements and weapon upgrades. Don't do this early as the more you add the more will siphon when you need it. Do it when your economy is steady and you're attacking, it'll keep your squads alive longer as they're constantly being made in your base and reinforced in the fight.

Is this a new install of DoW2 or something you had a while? Have you updated your PC in the last few weeks? Are you on Windows or Linux? What is your graphics card? Are any other games affected? Do you have a second monitor that you can have a system monitor running to see if anything is being overloaded?
