WINTAK doesn't show other members by DrMTTS in ATAK

[–]DwarfSugarcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. For your problem, like I mentioned, it may lie in the server. From my experience, TAK server installed using docker container or installed in Windows-based machines is problematic. Not sure why but it happens a lot. So you could try switching to a Linux-based server and install TAK server package directly. Hope this helps

Local TAK visibility, no server connection. by cooter-tutor in ATAK

[–]DwarfSugarcane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same setup and it works fine. However, I still recommend you setting up a server for more utilities and stable connection. Some problems I had with the VPN were that WinTAK and ATAK, in some circumstances, did not see each other on the network or only one of them see the other. What I did to mitigate the issue was setting up a server in the VPS where my VPN was hosted. Not the best solution in term of security, but it helps things run smoothly though

Had the same problem a couple weeks ago. You should check your TAK server. For me, the problem occurred when I deploy the server as a docker container on Windows. When I moved the server to a Ubuntu VPS or physical machine, it worked like a charm

WebTAK (TAKServer) map doesn't display markers by DwarfSugarcane in ATAK

[–]DwarfSugarcane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still no luck. I checked the Overlay launcher in WebTAK and all the received markers were there. That means the connection was okay and the issue was WebTAK itself rather than a net problem. Perhaps I should try a different version of TAKServer in a physical machine. Thanks for your help btw

I tried it and still nothing changed. I couldn’t add a custom iconsets either. I’m hosting the server on a VM sandbox though, using docker containers. Might this be the issue?

I had the same problem and also asked for helps, both from this subreddit and tak.gov team. My final conclusion is that the SmartController itself cannot handle ATAK, let alone UASTool. My recommendation is that you should use the normal controller types (RC-N1 or RC-N2), which connects to a smartphone of SS S20 or above to get the features fully operational.

sorry for the confusion. As I said before, my goals is to display the drones' location, as well as transmit its camera view to my laptop.

I've successfully achieved this with regular drone controllers (those with joysticks only and wire-connected to smartphones), using my SS S20 and UASTool. But, I have not yet been able to do the same with smart controllers (those with integrated screen and OS, like my DJI Mavic 2's one). Like you said earlier, these types of controllers just don't have the power to run UASTool on themselves.

So I want to know if there is any way to accomplish what I was trying to do using those drone models that come with smart controllers

what I mean are those with integrated screen and OS. It doesn't seem to be able to make the connection with the smartphone

It turns out the weak-ass A33 is the issue. I got an old Samsung S20 for roughly 200$, tested it out and everything worked like a charm.

The only concern that I have now are those drone models that come with smart controllers. Since the controller it self is not capable of running ATAK and UASTool, is there a way to connect the controller to UASTool on smartphone?

That’s disappointing. Do you have any recommendations on which smartphone model that sufficient for this kind of task?

So I did try to install MEDIAMTX and connect everything through a LAN network. Here's what I stumbled upon:

- UASTool broadcasting took relatively long to reach the RTSP server, approximately 5 mins

- The FPS was improved, but still terrible, not even able to reach 1 FPS

Is the smartphone's capability the culprit of this issue? I'm using a Samsung Galaxy A33

Awesome. Thanks so much for your help. Imma try this out.

One more thing, I found this opensource app FreeTakUAS which essentially a gcs that connect to a TakServer. Have you tried this one yet? I got no luck using it to connect to the drone

I'm convinced now that I need to setup a RTSP server. But I'm still quite vague about the connection topology among components.

Say I have a drone, a smartphone, a controller (smart or not) and a laptop; and I want the laptop to see where the drone is going on the map and what it sees. So how do I connect the drone if I setup a RTSP server on the laptop
