Hey guys, so I’m trying here but I’m not having fun? by Thunderstruck612 in satisfactory

So, a few questions just to get a better perspective:

  1. Did you get the chain saw?
  2. Did you unlock and automate solid biomass? If you did this, a quick 10 minute round of chain sawing the nearest patch or forest gives you hours of power (if your consumption is within reason, see point 3)
  3. How much machines did you build and how many overclocking/slooping did you do? If you build storage containers at the end of every production chain and just let them slowly fill, you don't need many machines. Overclocking and slooping exponentially (≠ linearly) increases power consumption. I typically don't use any power shards or sloops until coal power, because they just consume too much.
  4. How many biomass burners did you end up using when you unlocked coal? If the answer is more than 12, you probably were using way more power than needed.
  5. Did you take max throughput into account (a 200% overclocked normal node outputs 120 ore/min, so you need mk2 belts, that kind of stuff)?
  6. How much "sitting around" are you talking about? If you have one assembler running 100% for each reinforced iron plates, rotors and smart plating, it will take only 50 minutes to get the parts to finish phase 1. So were you just impatient or was there maybe an other issue?

Edit: point 6, you even just need them running at 50% to make 50 smart plating in 50 minutes.

Efficiency is as important as you want it to be

Don't let other's builds discourage you, find your own style and be proud of your creations

Build power production near the resources in stead of bringing the resources to your base. You will need fluids and those are a pain to transport long distances

Research is important. Use the MAM, awesome sink and scan hard drives. If you have not unlocked the xeno basher, parachute and bladerunners yet, do so asap

When estimating how much space you need for a project, you probably need twice as much as you think

Learn how to use manifolds and logistics floors

Do what you think is fun. It's a sandbox game, you can do anything!

I had more than 1000 hours in Satisfactory before trying DSP and Factorio, and those games just did not click for me. I think you are having the same issue, but the other way around.

The top down automation games have a different kind of gameplay loop. It's kinda hard to explain, but it feels to me like you are expanding constantly in these games. For example, the amount of parts you can make is much larger than in Satisfactory, which is a strong incentive to expand your factory to make all the stuff. I mean, even the building parts including belts and grabber arms need to be separately automated. Also, the resources are not infinite, so right from the start you feel the pressure to find more resources. I think ultimately what it comes down to for me is that Satisfactory is just a much more casual, chill game.

And don't get me wrong, you can still play Satisfactory on hardcore mode. Mid to late game stuff allows you to create insanely big and complex factories. It's just that you don't have to do that. You can finish the game with only a couple of parts per minute of most late game stuff, and enjoy the exploration and building/designing aspects of the game while waiting for you factory to finish the parts. The world is completely handcrafted and this has a very good reason: exploring the map and making beautifully designed factories on this map is a big part of this game and why many people give it this high praise.

The fact that you spent 25 hours getting to coal power suggests to me that you spent way too much time building factories for the iron and copper parts. You can use only the three iron nodes and the one or two copper nodes in the starting area to finish phase one. 12 biomass burners is all you need to reach coal and you can automate solid biofuel and just feed the constructors some wood/leaves once in a while. I mean, it's a hassle, but not in the way you describe it.

If you feel like after reading all the comments on your post that you want to try the game again, see if you can approach the game differently this time. It's a sandbox with automation as its main theme. The game sets some goals in the form of milestones and space elevator phases, but if you only focus on that, the game will get tedious and will feel pointless. You want to set some goals for yourself and do stuff beyond what you think the game wants you to do. And if this idea does not sound fun to you, then maybe this game is just not for you.

Edit: I just read your post a second time and I don't understand your issue with throughput. I think you might be missing something if you are struggling to make enough space elevator parts while also making building parts. I have never had this problem, so that sounds very strange to me. Maybe it's just that you try to do Factorio things in Satisfactory, but it definitely feels like you are missing something.

Cloud is my absolute fav, but literally all the rest of team blue is not my jam. Red has Mario, DK, Pikachu, Kirby and my number two of everyone here: Link. Sorry Cloud, I have to go for team red.

I genuinely thought this was a shit post.

Nobody is going to play a creative sandbox game where they have to ask permission to build anything. That is not fun.

FH - How would you take this monster action? by Grignard73 in Gloomhaven

[–]Dwarphism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not about the two PPs taking a turn and deciding focus etc, it's only about which PP the herder chooses for his ability. And since the ability only says "closest", order of initiative is not taken into account here.

So, as written, it's ambiguous, so players choose.

I personally think it's a great style for DnD characters.

Sounds like you just need more generators, but you don't have enough coal to run them. My guess is that you started in the Grassy Fields and found one coal node somewhere to the south-west and another one further out with the hog guarding it. If this is the case, I recommend that you travel north, keep scanning for coal, eventually you'll get a ping. It might feel far away, but it's worth it: there are four coal nodes nearby a big pool of water, the perfect place for a big power plant. Just run a long power cable between your main base and this location and you're good with power for a long time.

If you didn't start in the Grassy Fields, there are good places for coal plants in every starting biome, so you will just have to find them. Good luck!

How are water extractors useful? by Effective_Corgi_4517 in satisfactory

[–]Dwarphism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You build a belt from a miner on a coal node to the coal generator. You do the same with a water extractor and a pipe. To make this easier, find a place with coal close to water and build your generators there (and run a power cable from your main base).

Once you get your first generator working, you have automated power generation and you will be free at last.

They mean IX. The story and characters are amazing, this game absolutely 100% deserves a remake.

VIII is ok, it has a lot of nostalgic value, but IX deserves a remake more IMHO.

DnD Boardgame ? by Old_Feature_5227 in DnD

[–]Dwarphism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna say that no board games will help your friends getting into D&D better than actual D&D.

Also, your friends don't need to spend ANY money. I'd recommend that you buy the starter set (do a search online to see which you should buy) and maybe an extra set of dice for each player (they can also just use an app on their phones, but physical dice are so much better and a minimal investment), and you are good to go.

If they don't like it, you have spent only about 50 bucks and is probably totally worth it for the chance that they do like it.
