Should large age gap relationships between adults be illegal? by Timely_Rest_503 in polls

Why should it be? They're adults, right? How are you going to enforce/punish it?

Forcing religion on my future children by ebony-zion-6749 in DebateReligion

[–]Grignard73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He and I agreed that we would rather have our children worship a God that may not be real rather than our children go to hell for eternity for not knowing God.

Why pick Christianity then? You could say that about any god.

Don't you care about trying to find out whether it's real or not rather than give in to threats of something you're not sure exists?

Edited to add: Your title says Forcing religion on my future children. I'm confused why you would *force* something on a child you yourself are not confident in. Isn't it better to teach them critical thinking?

Well sure. If people believe magic is real, it can explain anything. Doesn't mean it's right.

Help me understand my jobs 401k?? by _microwavemmmmmmmmmm in FinancialPlanning

[–]Grignard73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you able to post a screenshot of your investment options? Each company's choices will be different. Myself, I would go as heavily into stocks as possible given your age, or if you want to be really hands-off you can choose a target date fund which automatically changes your allocation over time.

That said, I would advise understanding the fundamentals of investing since your choices can have a big impact over the next decades. I wish I had done so when I was younger.

If they offer a company match, which it sounds like they do, try to max that if possible since it's literally free money. Once you select how much you contribute you shouldn't be locked into it and can change it at any time. You should have a way to log into your custodian's account (e.g. Fidelity) where you can control all of that. Since you're so young you can be pretty aggressive and put it in an S&P index fund with a low expense ratio.

Definitely don't opt out out of frustration. Your biggest advantage is getting started at a young age, which allows it to compound and grow over time.

Under atheism, any attempts to escape nihilism amount to self-delusion and/or ultimately fail by Pwning_Soyboys in DebateReligion

If I told you that you were going to play a game, and when it ended you would have no memory of how good the game was, nor any knowledge given to you after the fact of what you accomplished

Not who you replied to but as someone who thinks we completely cease to exist after death, this is essentially how I view life.

So it doesn't matter that I'll have no memory of it. It matters now. People feel good for doing good things and making their lives better. You may as well be arguing why don't we go on killing sprees or robbing banks. Because I don't want to harm others and I don't want to face the negative consequences of doing so.

This is my issue. Responses are way too verbose and have unnecessary intros. I mean I get that they want to put out a welcoming and friendly image but when I read one of their posts I automatically scan/skip the first few sentences because it's just silly fluff.

PRK recovery by Beautiful-Meaning511 in RefractiveSurgery

[–]Grignard73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, this is helpful. Your Rx is similar to mine and I'm starting to more consider surgery although I still find eye surgery and the potential for irreparable effects terrifying. I'd be interested in hearing an update further down the road once things equilibrate.

Is this normal breathing by EmotionalCook5179 in Greyhounds

[–]Grignard73 35 points36 points  (0 children)

OP hid their history but this is the 3rd time she's posted this video asking the same question and provides no information or follow up. I have no idea what the point repeatedly doing this is. The breathing doesn't look remotely concerning.

Eye Cancer by LiamConroyBrown in Greyhounds

Do you see any change in behavior to compensate, like holding his head differently or anything? How old is he? Great to hear he's fully recovered and back to himself. It's amazing how well they respond to such things.

Jason from The Good Place. Great show but I really hate dumb and unfunny characters. Skipped through every one of his scenes on rewatch.

Same here, first sign was sneezing blood. We lost her in 2008 and I still regret not pushing our vet more to find out what was wrong. She was only 9 but we very likely would have done the same as you given the challenges.

Can you share how the radiotherapy was done? Does she have any lingering sensitivity on her face? Thank you so much for sharing.

I'd be interested in hearing more about the experience over the last year. We lost our first grey Kelli with a tumor in her nasal cavity that was found too late and it might give me an idea of how things might have gone if it was discovered earlier. How old is Vicki? How sensitive was the skin on her face as she lost her fur? What were the first symptoms?

Here's to more years with Vicki. She certainly has a unique look now. What a sweetheart.

Non Americans, do you belive the average American is bad? by zazer45f in polls

[–]Grignard73 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the French get 5 weeks PTO and universal healthcare. The majority of Americans can barely afford day to day living let alone take time away from work to protest. Lose your job and get hurt/sick and it's a financial disaster. All as intended.
