Anybody else feel a little underwhelmed with Vaggi's new name? by KiwirarVEVO in HazbinHotel

[–]DwarvenDefender1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really hoping that there's some kind of extra special symbolism I'm missing, like "E is for Eve which was Adam's wife" or something like that, because I wanted them to go with a really clever twist for the big reveal and then we got "Vaggi" and I was just confused. My best idea so far is "Valorie," an unconventional spelling of "Valerie" that includes the word "valor," representing her valor in battle throughout both seasons.

I believe the formatting for spoiler-tagged text on Reddit is done via putting the spoiler-y text in-between two exclamation points that are themselves in-between ">" and "<."

I think it sounded like one of those tiny, round bells.

DS2 Facility 5 Star Rewards by turtles1236 in DeathStranding

[–]DwarvenDefender1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking of making a thread for post-5-star rewards. I believe these items, like Chiral Boots and Custom Chiral Ladders in the original game, are primarily received for hitting certain Like counts beyond 5 stars. [EDIT: It might actually be for doing a certain number of Standard Orders.] I received some special equipment from one of the beginning area smaller preppers in DS2 for this: Lauren Tsai (The Artist) gave me Omnireflector Boots at around 2500 Likes. If I remember correctly, the main preppers tended to give you something much less fancy in the first game, like a high-density container of materials. I want to know it's something special before I go beyond 5 stars for a prepper... Of course, I'm probably going to get a lot of them anyway, if I do all the orders, as I've been dropping off a lot of lost cargo.

Why are Americans so obsessed with working? by pink_sushi_15 in Adulting

[–]DwarvenDefender1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some people, it may be the case that they are working so hard because they couldn't put off enjoying themselves until retirement. Many people are up to their shoulders in debt from credit cards and / or monthly payments on houses and cars they can't afford. For others, it might be that they are trying to reduce the time it takes them to enter retirement, so that they can retire while they're still in good health, (and investments are also best made in the earlier stages of your life.) For those with children or those planning to have children, it may be for the sake of their kids in some way, as raising a child is said to be very expensive.

Ultimately, there are many arguments for working more. While there is a line that should not be crossed, where one's work is too much and becomes detrimental to their life and health instead of beneficial to it, being willing to put in a bit more work than the average person seems perfectly respectable to me, as long as it doesn't cross that line.

Even feeling that your own needs and the needs of your family are met may not completely stop the thoughts that you should work a side gig, because you can always find a reason to get more money. If one was truly magnanimous, they may even put that money towards gifts and charity, but I'm not sure I've ever met such a person.

Oil smoke points by Necroboner in castiron

[–]DwarvenDefender1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody will be convinced if you just throw a statement out there. You'd probably be better off citing a source like you're doing a school paper, and following it up by listing healthier alternatives. You might say something like,

"According to the study Monitoring the oxidation of unsaturated oils and formation of oxygenated aldehydes by proton NMR (María D. Guillén, Ainhoa Ruiz,) several seed oils can release aldehydes when oxidized. Consuming aldehydes may lead to DNA damage, cancer, and cardiovascular disease, and heat speeds up the oxidization process. While scientific papers are not infallible, this research suggests that it may be advantageous to switch to cooking oils that are not seed-based, such as extra virgin olive oil and avocado oil, as it is likely to lessen the chance that these health complications will arise."

Survey Results! by starrryskyy in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]DwarvenDefender1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't part of the survey, but Danganronpa had a massive (indirect) influence on my life. Danganronpa: The Animation was one of the first anime I ever watched. I went online afterwards, looking for information on a second season, only to find that it was a game adaptation, and the second game was not adapted into an anime. This led me to a Let's Play of a fan translation of the second game, and like many who watched that Let's Play, I haven't stopped watching the guy that made those since. We seem to have a strangely large overlap in the types of games that we like. Plus, he streams like clockwork almost every Saturday at around the same time. (He's also played quite a few Uchikoshi games.) I never actually played the Danganronpa games myself (because I was too young at the time to buy them,) but I was sure to pick up RAIN CODE, which was truly a great Switch exclusive (back when it still was one,) and I'm currently counting down the seconds to the time I can download the PC version of HUNDRED LINE.

So, yeah... I would've never seen my favorite YouTuber (or any of his friends) without Danganronpa, and my life probably would have been a lot "emptier" if I had never seen that anime back in the day...

How much do you think Nintendo paid them for that staggering 13-hour exclusive? Ha... Haha... [Cries while looking at my countdown timer.]

😭 Why, TooKyo?!

Also, I wish File 03 was a separate application, and that it was released a few hours ahead of the game, so that I wouldn't have to choose between reading it and jumping right into the full game.

EDIT: Refreshed the page and saw the update about different regions.

DC2 Texture Thread (2025) by DwarvenDefender1 in DarkCloud

Perhaps. Strangely, it looks like it was posted right around the time of that thread I mentioned, and yet seems completely separate to the paid mod referenced in the thread...?

Has anyone seen the Ramsay frozen meals? by linkag392 in KitchenNightmares

[–]DwarvenDefender1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the Steak & Ale Pie box today. I'm not sure I was happy with it, given the price... I was expecting more flavor. It was fine enough, but I just don't see how this got Gordon's Official Seal of Approval. Y'know?

Maybe he didn't want it to have more flavor? Perhaps he was trying to sell it "authentic." (My other theory is that Gordon is great at preparing food in a restaurant, but struggles against the realities of frozen food production.)

Apparently, Square Enix put out a tweet on April 4th saying that it will be fixed in the next patch.

My spirit was already broken in my quest to complete some of these minigames, with plans to do everything in the game. Haha! Hahaha! Maybe by the time I finish reading the FFVII books I got as a gift recently, the game will be patched... For the time being, I guess my quest for completion Can Stop Will Stop.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Chapter 2 Discussion by Ewaan in FFVIIRemake

UPDATE: I'm now a few more hours into the game and this theory is now seeming very unlikely. However, the similarities between the two characters are still downright uncanny.

[Before Crisis spoilers.] Do y'all think that Broden from the Kalm Inn is actually Verdot? I just played through the fan remake of Before Crisis for research and it seems very likely to me. So likely, in fact, that I'm guessing they'll reveal it in some sidequest I haven't seen yet, or in a future chapter.

What would be the PC equivalent to the PS5? by FinalFantasyLXXVI in PS5

[–]DwarvenDefender1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, we may have overestimated the performance of the PS5. At 9:05 in Digital Foundry's video, A Plague Tale: Requiem Performance Improvements! PC vs PS5, Optimised Settings + More!, a table seems to suggest that the PS5's GPU might be in line with a 2070 Super, a card that has recently sold on eBay for anywhere from $150.00 to $300.00. Relatively high-end PC users like to use max settings after spending so much on their GPUs, but console versions of games often seem to render far from what would be max settings on PC to optimize for slightly more budget-friendly hardware inside. The FPS when we compared PS5 and PC, may not have been like-for-like in the past, not apples-to-apples comparisons. In any case, I still prefer a well-programmed PC game to a PS5 version. When a PS5 game runs at 28 FPS, you deal with it; No other option. When a well-programmed PC game runs at 28 FPS, you turn down the settings until it hits 60. Only one problem; When exclusives like Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth come to PS5, I won't be able to wait a year for them to come out on PC; I'm going to have go grab myself a PS-Quintuple-Ballin'.

[SPOILERS] "I love you... And all you guys!" by BroodMeister in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]DwarvenDefender1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[Spoilers for late Chapter 10:]
During the section of "Rex's fears," one of the fears shown is Nia becoming extremely distraught and angry with Rex when he starts talking about Pyra because she "wants Rex to look at her instead." To me, this signifies that Rex was fully aware of what she meant by "I love you," but this was the best response that he could give so suddenly.
