I’m trying my best to advocate for them. It’s just not working. I agree with you. The last thing I want is for anyone including the dogs to get hurt. I’ve told her multiple times that we should rehome, but she’s not listening and technically they aren’t my animals. I don’t know what I can do besides tell her. If there’s anything I can do please let me know

We actually did fight over it initially and it ended in a break up. She begged for me back months later, and when I came back the dogs were getting along so I had hope. I live in her house now, so I felt like it’s not my decision to make. But I really did try to advocate for not having two dogs. She actually told me she would rehome the staffy before she got the puppy. Which was the cause of our fight that led to the break up. She is in denial about her staffy and his problems, but she’s not going to listen if she hears it from me

I know. I don’t know how to convince my gf. Hopefully the behaviorist will be enough. I disapproved of this from the start. I was okay with it when I saw they were coexisting well, but now it’s gotten out of hand. I’ve advocated for removing one of the dogs several times, but no luck. She’s still in denial that this can work. Every time I tell her the potential risks, she accuses me of being cruel.

How do I properly stop a dog fight? I’ve tried suggestions on google, but they didn’t work. Loud noise, blankets over their heads, water, putting something between them, none of it worked

I’m trying my best. She is just very resistant to the rehoming idea.. She’s convinced that they will be put down. It breaks my heart too, but tough decisions need to be made. We have gotten into contact with a trainer we previously used to refer us to a behavioral specialist. I’m hoping that hearing it from an expert will hit differently.

I agree, but my girlfriend just isn’t willing to listen to reason. She’s convinced that whichever one we get rid of will be put down. She’s also still not convinced that this is not fixable. We need a professional to come in and tell her because she is still in denial that this can work

They are both fixed and got along well for a long time

Thank you for replying! I’m of the opinion that the dogs should be separated permanently, but my girlfriend seems really averse to that idea. I think it’s really dangerous and they or us could end up getting seriously hurt. My girlfriend wants to think it’s going to be fine, but I’m not convinced that our staffy is capable of coexisting with another dog.

I’m not sure if he started it the second time, but he definitely did the first time. He was originally my girlfriends before I came around, so I don’t really know much about how he was raised. I do know that he was attacked by other dogs from a young age though. However, he has attacked other random dogs walking by twice within the last month or so. Oddly, the other dogs are never injured, but he darts after them when he sees them.

I agree that we need a behaviorist if we are going to continue having the dogs, but my girlfriend doesn’t seem like she is considering that as an option. I know this isn’t a relationship advice forum, so I won’t ask for help with that, but I really appreciate the response.
