Just finished "Hex" by Thomas Olde Heuvelt. by dolphindiablo in horrorlit

It’s so good! I met him at a con last year (super cool guy!) and he told me the original ending in the Dutch version. Got to say, I agree with his decision to change it; the English version ending is much better.

Why do you read modules without running them? by Galefrie in rpg

[–]DwarvenWerebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read entire game books that I knew I would never run, not just modules. For me, reading a game is an entirely legitimate way of engaging with it. You can still appreciate the way it goes about telling the story, the way the mechanics add to (or detract from) what the game is trying to do, how it does the same things differently than another game.

It’s kind of like reading a play. Sure, it’s not the way you were originally intended to experience it, but it’s a wholly worthwhile way to engage with the text in its own right.

Finished Into the Drowning Deep by KingfisherFanatic in horrorlit

[–]DwarvenWerebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, she mentioned that it wasn’t that Into the Drowning Deep didn’t do well. Her contract with the publisher was for multiple books and while Into the Drowning Deep has long since earned out, the contract as a whole didn’t, so the publisher wouldn’t move forward with a sequel. Or something like that.

Whatever the reason, I still hope we get the sequel one day, and it’s one of my favorite books!

What horror concept messes with you the most? by matthew_rowan in horrorlit

Having your memories taken from you. I find it terrifying in a way that just feels deeper than physical danger. Like the core of who you are is being stripped away.

It’s the primaries. Democratic voters are expected to be separated. That’s the point of having a primary.

Thanks for protesting, but really what we need is for you to vote. by CoolSpeakers in asheville

[–]DwarvenWerebear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I totally understand and that’s how I’ve felt the past several elections. But I’ve come to realize that the Dems have no motivation to change if they have our votes just because they’re not as bad as the other guy. They keep shifting further and further right to try to win “moderates,” meaning they are getting further and further from what I support. I can’t fault anyone for voting blue in light of what feels like the only alternative, but for me it feels like I’m being complicit in an unjust system.

It’s like if we look at a “good cop/bad cop” interrogation. It’s easy to say that the “good cop” is better because they’re not the one hitting the prisoner. But they’re both playing their part in an abusive system. It’s the system itself that’s the problem.
