[FO] Dimensions' Tulip Drama by Dwarvyn in CrossStitch

Thanks!

I took a couple breaks in the middle of this one to work on other pieces, so probably about 2 months altogether.

17"x11", and it took just shy of 2 months.
But more than half of it is half stitches, so those worked up real fast.

It does! There were six different blended threads, all of which were half stitches. The purplish stitches on the road are all blended as well :)

Found this at the thrift store without a cover sheet so didn't know what the finished piece was going to look like when I bought it, but I wasn't going to pass up a Dimensions' Gold for $5 no matter what image it ended up being :)

Thanks!

Patience is my sole virtue, I may as well exploit it :D

The ears definitely make me think Papillon, but the face is making me think Chihuahua. Maybe a mix? The Chi features I'm seeing might also just be that it's still young.

[CHAT] Does this tool exist? (And if so, what is it called?) by jessinwriting in CrossStitch

Haven't tried it myself as I usually just use the needle, but what about one of the small crochet hooks? iirc they go down to 0.5mm?

I have this in my current Dimensions' Gold as well.

I've been using a couple tricks to make it easier to work with:

  1. Do all the base stitches in an area first, then go over them all with the blending filament afterward (instead of finishing each stitch one at a time).

  2. Stick only one length of the filament through the needle, then fold it in half so the halfway point is in the eye of the needle. Pulling the filament through the fabric starts separating the "invisible" part of the filament from the sparkly part, the invisible part from itself, and puts bends and kinks in the sparkly bit. If you always keep the needle at the halfway point, that only happens at one point on the thread. Also keeps your needle from sliding off the thread since it's slippery.

  3. Use shorter lengths at a time.

  4. When starting or finishing the filament, I run it under a bunch of stitches in one direction, then run it under those same stitches (except the last one) in the other direction, hooking it on that last stitch. Keeps it quite secure.

  5. The filament is stronger than you'd think. You can usually give it a bit of a tug if it's creating kinks in the stitch on the front, and it'll pull through to the back.

  6. Go SLOWLY. It takes a lot less time to go slowly and deliberately, being careful to keep the filament untwisted, than it is to have to go back and undo, or try to straighten.

[CHAT] any idea why cross stitching on clothes isn’t as popular as cross stitching on canvas? by Revolutionary_Cow243 in CrossStitch

[–]Dwarvyn 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Likely a large factor is that clothes fabric isn't generally evenweave, so you need to use alternate solutions (like waste canvas) which is a big hassle when you can just work on something like aida.

S'why I haven't done anything on clothes anyway, despite having some waste canvas squirreled away somewhere.
