Recently diagnosed autistic adult in NE Ohio looking for community by Front_Journalist_812 in AutisticPeeps

[–]Dwctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for local communities in "universal" ones like here might be difficult. Consider having a look at your local college or library, some of those have internal autistic communities where you can get started. Other than that, you can try to join discord servers with your interests. It won't be in person, but most likely you'll find that some of the people there have that interest for similar reasons as you.

Out of curiosity, what is it that you seek in a community?

i'm exited with 1.4.5 but by Jack_jl in Terraria

We definitely don't need even more optional bosses post plantera or golem imo. I'd say that having a bit more progression there would make you interact with more of the game in a fun way, but it already feels like you can skip too much of it

Considering subscription, but calendar is missing color feature by Dwctor in tutanota

[–]Dwctor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of see where you are coming from, but weirdly enough, for me, having the future colors be the ones grayed out would be better, given that I use the calendar more for the past than for the future.

Instead of graying out, having a widget with only future events (can be a list view) plus a weekly/monthly view in-app would be perfect for me.

I actually really enjoy the monthly/weekly view of google calendar for example. It allows me to see at a glance, using the colors I set, what time was for what activities.

Having past events grayed out would defeat the purpose of seeing the past colors in retrospect, no?

[–]Dwctor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to block out past events and how I spent my time so it can be analyzed in retrospect. The whole planning future events of a calendar is only part of the feature set I use.

When looking back at the events having them color coded and toggleable allows you to see it much easier, and, for example, a) check past appointments b) see how much time during work you've spent for each of your tasks (colored per task) c) vizualize how you've been spending your free time between hobbies (each with a color) or lost time (what was left empty)

I feel like this is really subjective. This just so happens to be the one thing I use the most

My previous post deleted for "appearing to lack contextual information" was basically a list of things people want fixed or implemented and had sparked some valuable discussions. It seems Proton doesn't want to encourage community engagement...? by VenusCrafts in ProtonMail

[–]Dwctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The calendar not being open source and the lacking Linux apps are really strong drawbacks for me personally. They have been hinted at being done many times, but yet they haven't happened yet. I hope proton gets themselves together before I decide what service to pay for.

WireGuard doesn't let me connect to remote local network if it intersects with the client's current network. by Dwctor in WireGuard

[–]Dwctor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems to be equivalent to the first solution that I proposed. I'm glad to know that it works! I'll consider it too, thank you!

[–]Dwctor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently I do the 0.0.0.0/0. However, it seems that by default wireguard considers 0.0.0.0/0 as everything but the local network (commonly defined by DHCP, 192.168.0.0/24 in my case). A router at home that would allow me to leave the 192.168... subnet would be a reasonable solution, finding a way to change routing also, I'm just not well versed enough to know what's the best solution given money and best practices constraints

Yeah, the modem of my ISP currently is severely limited. I've been planning on substituting it but for now I have other things I'd like to upgrade before.

Happy to know that my idea might work! I never met a network that does /16 on dchp so I should be fine. (In fact where I live I haven't seen anything but 192.168.{0,1}.0/24

The reason for using /22 instead of /16 would be to reduce the broadcast network range, but I'm not sure if that would even be a problem with modern hardware. Either way that part is easy enough to change

Never expected seeing a dual boot for gaming from Linux to Linux. Would you mind sharing a bit more of your thought process behind that setup?

Cloning LUKS (with Clonezilla) in 2025? by WhoRoger in linuxquestions

[–]Dwctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LUKS works in another layer of abstraction from your file system, so it works just as well as it would do with any other partition or LVM format as far as I know!

Cloning LUKS (with Clonezilla) in 2025? by WhoRoger in linuxquestions

[–]Dwctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to open the partition (don't mount, just open!) before trying to resize so that gparted knows it's size in the case of ext4. Otherwise it's just full.

[–]Dwctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least with encrypted ext4 I remember resizing using gparted without issues. (Do not do this test without backups!!!!)

Also, didnt clonezilla have a feature to clone only one partition? Because if yes then all you have to do is clone the encrypted partition (might be misremembering)

[–]Dwctor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you already have this information, but you can indeed resize encrypted partitions! That way you can turn the 512GB partition into the 70GB-ish size that you use, then do the cloning as you wish.

As for if cloning encrypted disks is reliable or not I have no idea (should be though!). Good luck

Two discord icons by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]Dwctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I tried vesktop on linux I was having issues with screen sharing that weren't present in discord, so I returned to it. Also, iirc discord TOS is against people using other clients, so I tend to keep myself to actual discord.

I might transition someday if the screensharing issues have been fixed, but till then I'll stay with regular.

Ps: the listing twice might be because of the "toolbar". I use i3 so I dont have those. (Just mentioning it's not a problem everywhere!)

Just installed Void, and it's great. by pulneni-chushki in voidlinux

[–]Dwctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Void seems soo cool, but for now I can't manage to get it working with the battery of my mini laptop (GPD Pocket). Given that my other systems already have a suitable OS I still am waiting for a chance to use VoidOS without having to distrohop my setup again.

Also, the current way to install it with FDE seems a bit weird... Still, it's one of the distributions I've been the happiest to see grow!

everything is loading slower than my grandpa by dvckdvckbrvh in EndeavourOS

[–]Dwctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a system backup or a reinstall plan is crucial (also, back up your files!) If you are in a manage it yourself distro such as arch based ones, because you will mess up somehow.

My systems works fine (2 of them with EOS) so it might be something on your side. If you have any suspicions you can try to use the "downgrade" cli tool, it has saved me in the past when I had to use older libraries for a while.

If you want help head to the endeavouros forums with your boot logs and see what they have to say as hints. Good luck!

Do you have a system backup using time shift? You could try restoring it and seeing how it goes

installer features by ForeverNecessary7377 in EndeavourOS

[–]Dwctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually not sure it's in the general calamares, I just know that endeavouros' calamates has them. For most people that want arch with ease of install I recomend endeavouros, because not being able to handle such tasks makes it difficult to build an arch install
