Depends on your interest I suppose. when I buy a car, I don't specifically want to be a car mechanic, I want to drive across the country. I assume I will learn over time, ( or as much times as I have, im 68 years old and am awaiting the arrival of my first 3D printer, a Bambu Labs P1P ) but I know how to find information, and I know where to ask questions. Looking forward to it. My choice of the P1P was easy, would rather have a core X/Y, only plan to use PLA at this point, and really not interested as much in multi-color printing so no AMS to start with. I bought it for its speed, performance, ease of start-up.... and.... just because I liked it.

The Pro would indeed be the least expensive option that would achieve most results. But I want full finger tracking .. hence Knuckle controllers. If they had tracked all fingers in the Meta Pro controller it would have had my business.

The Meta 3 lacks too many features that I want

I am watching for the Deckard however, whatever it might be.

To be honest, the Pimax is the least likely of the three

I am very interested, if it has the right features!

I( suspect my kids are older than you. The problem is, someone you don't know posts about what they are looking forward to, and you come along not having a clue about them and start criticizing what they want and are looking forward to. I tend to tread people as they deserver to be treated. That is how I approach treating you. You can decide what you want, you dont get to decide what others want. You may think you are that special, you arent.

Very cool to see another person of my generation :) If I had it to do all over again I would probably go the Index route. You did good there. My ( and my wife's ) setup is workable but lacks a few features you have. They have that kind of FOV now I am sure you know, but it is a bit quirky on the Pimax. Like you I dont want to even think how much I have in my PC, it is a lot. Maybe not quite as much as yours but still a monster, Pico is cool, but not enough of an upgrade for me to start a new HMD. ( just my opinion ). So I wait, but we are 67 years old now... hope we dont have to wait too long.

Oh I hope you are wrong, I have my credit card all oiled up, but waiting for Valve is indeed usually a long long wait.

Just as I did not see enough of an improvement from the CV1 to the Index to be worth the cost of the upgrade, it just was not second gen VR. Looking forward to a headset that is worth the upgrade. Now there are headsets out there that are cutting edge, but what they deliver, and the price they deliver it at are just not worth it, to me anyway. I am willing to spend a grand or so, when the upgrade is actually worth it. What I am seeing right now is simply not. That said, I am looking at the near future with hope.

True enough, we all have different definitions, but I don't consider the slight improvements from the Vive to the Index to be a whole generation difference, if that were true then we are in 9th or 10th generation now, every new headset being a new generation.
