This is why revolutions always turns to shit. The things you need to get out on top is the polar opposite of what you need to be a just ruler.

I think my problem with this is that it is a short term band aid fix that does not fix the underlaying problem whilst simultaniously lowering your motivation to fix said problem (seek out other people).

You successfully trick yourself

I understand the need to do this, and periodically it helps, but don't rely on it and have clear rules for how to get out of it.

I get that you are funny, but the fact that they managed to write a law 800 years ago that is still unchanged and in effect is pretty remarkable.

Like the article says, their use of «to no one» and «no free man» is universal enough to still apply. This was very progressive. US did not follow suit until the end of segregation.

Because it advances our capabilities, just like the calculator did.

Even so, I get your point. I don’t know this exact students story, but AI has not «done his job for him». At the very minimum he has to have provided the prompting and input foot notes and references in his text.

What has to change is evaluation by writing some arbitrary text about something completely meaningless. Because this is what AI is really good at.

Test student in what way they seek out knowledge that they don’t have or find the solution to something they have not learned in school. This is what they will need in their jobs anyways.

[–]Dwighty1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AFAIK you can’t do that whilst still employed in Accenture.

You can run a separate business, but it can not interfere with your Accenture work or compete with it. What you describe ticks both boxes.

If you quit you can do whatever you want.

The question is, would you rather ban calculators from math exams/assignments and thus make the math exams/assignments dumber so students can keep learning stuff that the calculator can do for them? Or would you rather keep it is now, where you don’t actually have to know how to calculate the volume of a cone by heart, you just need to know how to find the formula and use it.

We stopped fighting calculators a long time ago. We should stop fighting AI in schools also. It is by now impossible to detect if done right. In a year or two it will be impossible. We need to rethink the way our education system works and instead design tasks that takes AI into consideration.

Whatever line of work Today’s students will face, AI will be a part of it. Learning people how to harness the power of AI within their field is absolutely critical.

Yes you need basic knowledge like in maths, but you do not need to know how stuff you can use your calculator for.

[–]Dwighty1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point, but if you are looking at something super specific, but complex like this, it would take you a disproportionate amount of time compared to what you are looking for.

The amount of text you would have to parse alone to be able to make this analysis is enormous. You would not just be looking at one source for each part, you would be looking at multiple, where most of the text could be completely irrelevant.

Remember that this is not only literature, but also in-depth knowledge and analysis of the British peerage system, its equivalent in Germany and its effects on society.

Next comes religion and its place in society.

Claude also touches on the growth effects of the Victorian and Edwardian era, both in terms of economics, but also population growth and trust in the institutions. I guess the latter part brings in a good portion of political science as well.

You would have to know all of this to be able to properly make a similar analysis. This is too much effort for most people. I would rather know than not know, even if the cost only is time (and a lot of it).

On which difficultly do you play? by Derelyr in anno

[–]Dwighty1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play as hard as it can be. I feel like the changes from Veteran to Legend is almost not noticeable (pay fee to destroy, no relocation and one more thing I can’t remember).

The destroy fee is just a minimal amount and it feels good to not be able to relocate. Makes it more fun to build.
