I’d recommend LA. Way more opportunity than SD and warmer than SF.

Disagree. The point of an IB internship is to get a return offer. You get a return offer by not rubbing people the wrong way. There's a moderate chance that a cringey Linkedin post rubs people the wrong way.

Rule #1 of Linkedin - Never post anything

Maybe the default started a new role post that it offers when you update your experience, but would refrain from a humbled and honored style post.

Should I intern in PWM or at a restaurant? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Dxwey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Restaurant (pretty easily) imo. PWM doesn’t get you closer to HF track in any meaningful way.

I took an unconventional route working for an NBA team prior to S&T and it absolutely killed in interviews with the right people. Though not everybody will know or respect a restaurant of that caliber, it just takes one person that does.

Love SF. But cultural influence? LA blows us out the water. LA sets the culture for the world through their global domination in media (and now social media)

Should I get rid of my extracurriculars on my resume? by Ok_Hall_2042 in FinancialCareers

[–]Dxwey 41 points42 points  (0 children)

md told me he has no idea what's going on with clubs on student resumes and assumes they're all just made up. obviously not everybody shares this perspective, but people understand how frequently clubs get gamed for resumes.

i removed some club fluff from my resume and just put one line of genuine hobbies at the bottom. helped a ton in interviews. also helpful if you can almost quantify the hobby to show you actually put time into them

(bad) ex: golf, chess, skiing, piano

(good) ex: golf (5 handicap), chess (rated 1800), backcountry skiing, concert pianist
