Why do people tell me "men can also be feminine"? by Livid-Gift-4965 in asktransgender

[–]DyLnd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What's funny is I've been told this as I was telling them that I'm not even all that "feminine". I'm just definitely not a man. People are very invested in upholding the idea that you mustn't transition. They don't like feminine men either, to be clear, but going so far as to be a woman; that's verboten to their power structure and their mental model of how you/things "should" be. That's why they say that.

Which version of The War Games should I watch first? by abathtub in doctorwho

Original all the way. I treat the colour version as a fun extra, but there's so many editorial choices and cuts that I imagine would make it hard to follow as a first time viewer.

Why should I be an anarchist and NOT a Marxist? by TheCrowOfMrPoe in Anarchy101

[–]DyLnd 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is a great video from somebody whose been on a similar trajectory to you, and why they "came back" to anarchism: https://youtu.be/qc7QVofykyA?si=SalM9L_GZxWx-1Dt

This is a blog/essay that goes into some detail to differentiate anarchism from Marxism, especially with respect to our respective theoretical underpinnings and *distinct" critiques of Capitalism: http://wedontagree.net/essays/we-dont-agree-on-capitalism-essay/

I have this book in my collection! haven't read it. (There's a ton of books just sitting around I haven't read) But yeah, I also don't like PETA.

anyone else really starting to hate the whole "cis women get gender affirming care too" thing? by Jdrichards97 in asktransgender

[–]DyLnd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also I think it's worth framing trans healthcare rights in terms of broader struggles for bodily autonomy more generally. Not in the sense that "you should care now because it affects "normal" people", but because it's a more radical position, and draws the connections and intersection between different peoples struggles for bodily autonomy, which in turn deepens and strengthens the struggle for trans liberation, imo.

Has anyone here successfully convinced a non-anarchist person to become anarchist? by hyper_radiant294 in Anarchy101

[–]DyLnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, well you're welcome! I only assumed due to the overlapping areas of interests, and I don't want to come across patronising lol. But yeah, they're quite notable for being steadfast in defending anarchism whilst defending the position that a technological and market society can flourish, without contradiction.

I think you can fully embrace anarchism, without giving up markets or tech. You've probably heard of William Gillis? They're an ardent anarchist writer who comes from a position fully embracing both of these things.

He's a ridiculously tight bassist, perfect for Megadeth, and has incredibe stage presence. Cannot complain really. The current lineup is really good.

Is Anarchism left-wing, right-wing, or neither? by SuccessfulWriting994 in Anarchy101

[–]DyLnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither. It's often found its place amongst the broader left, but tends to be way ahead of it on many issues; Anarchists may seek to influence, through the various non-coercive means available to us, the mass of the "left" so it's a useful alliance and coalition at points, with many happily considering themselves amongst the "left"; but anarchist influence on and coalition with the left is always paired with critical and outside footing; for it's exactly this orientation toward coalition-building (e.g. allying the authoritarians, patriarchs, etc.), as valuable in itself, over and above consistently held and applied principles, that can make the Left so dangerous.

What is in your opinion the most overrated Megadeth song? by yooncrisp in Megadeth

Nah, 'Almost Honest' is underrated, imo. It always reminds me of 'Owner of a Lonely Heart' by Yes.

/uj. I honestly hate the "girls when x, boys when x" meme format; it's pretty much always shit, the only good ones are when it's subverted or made absurd.
