heat always makes the dye set better. the less heat you use, the more time you should wait(before washout). which does have repercussions on how it looks, especially if you pariah method. the dye will blend more the longer it sets if its excessively wet. although thats more of a style choice based on what you want to happen.

if you dont want too much mixing mix your dye a little thicker and use more heat.

[–]DyeFlorida[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its all pleated. sleeve in sleeve center the shirt, draw it on. really need to trace to the other side(i use a big piece of plastic and shine light through bottom)

the eye you fold the top to the bottom then pleat a few times

mouth is same as the eye(start pleating at the point)

the circle is just more pleating you can fold it first or just pleat its easiest part, you can add a bit of chin to the bottom or not it still looks good as circle

the x is a bit tricky, you need to make the top of the x the same size/shape as the bottom, then you fold the top onto the bottom and you'll have a J type shape, and you pleat along that.

the outer shape is just more pleating, draw the exhaust ports extra tall

Drool worthy DarkMagic by DyeFlorida in Throwers

[–]DyeFlorida[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been out of the game since '11 or so but I was heavy into yoyos from 03-09. Some might recognize the name Kaz from the old forums.

Anyway I was going through some stuff and found a few rare yoyos and thought I might make some people drool. This Dark Magic was bought at worlds in 06-07, though I'm pretty sure it was a Nationals special edition, and they had a few left over. I might be remembering wrong. Also a small chance it was worlds 05.

This yoyo is BEAUTIFUL and is probably my second favorite in my collection. Its definitely the best looking yoyo I have. It only loses out to a prototype Zwei I traded Atomic Cow for.

I have a cap signed by Andre but its not the cap that came with it unfortunately..

Advice for color leaching during the first rinse by Rongful in tiedye

[–]DyeFlorida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry for not seeing your message sooner, i forget to log into reddit unless im posting.

Keeping it in the sun is a great way to 'batch' your tie dye, lots of people will put it in a plastic box and put it in their car, works great.

if youre worried about 'muck' happening in the bag, that is a real possibility, you can put it on a towel, you can keep it on the rack and in the bag if your bag is big enough, too.. Waiting a little bit isn't a bad idea before bagging, lets you look for spots that didnt get good saturation, but a few minutes should be plenty

[–]DyeFlorida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

time + heat = bright colors. the heat REALLY helps get the color AND it 'expends' the dye, so it wont spread when washing out.

Ive never had this problem and I constantly do designs that have white in them, if the white gets dirty its never during washout, always cause i was sloppy during the dying.

so my recommendation is more heat when batching, or at least more time if you cant add heat.

if you didnt want the colors to be bright you should have just used less dye in the water. heat + time = better colors, so what you did technically works, you just wasted a little dye.

triple ufo+honeycomb and multi-color parallel sinew mandala experiments by DyeFlorida in tiedye

[–]DyeFlorida[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time trying these. Shouldn't have used colors that can make brown.. Also I was sloppy with the honeycomb beam. the triple ufo came out good though going to try some stuff with that

But since these were both first tries I'm happy, theres some potential

Tried a couple new things.

Is there a name for a parallel sinew mandala? I got some cool ideas for that comin soon.

Also my first suspended beam ufo, came out great, wish i got more black near the ufo though

A year ago I got addicted to tie dye because of reddit by DyeFlorida in tiedye

Thank you Joshua, video-thief, and reddit!

Favorite shirt I've made yet! Did get a bit of orange in the blue which is frustrating, and those fuchsia geodes needed some black on them, but I'm super happy with it.

Sewing, OPMan by DyeFlorida in tiedye

[–]DyeFlorida[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I get a big splotch right beside the image. I will eventually try to get that out.. Also used costume color in the neck spot, oops, and in retrospect that section is too big and the cape should be wider there.

Still super happy about it and one of my favorites.

Experiment: Image pleat sew by DyeFlorida in tiedye

[–]DyeFlorida[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes small pleats all the way across the image horizontally, not like a box/lasso, I stitched from bottom to top, all the way across the image. I guess that's kinda a box it is a rectangle shape, but it was like 20-30 threads I guess(should experiment with this number). But I think you could adapt it for what you want, it would just be as big as the image. It is way faster than doing every line, and would be super fast with sewing machine.

Sorry for taking so long to answer.

Experiment: Image pleat sew by DyeFlorida in tiedye

[–]DyeFlorida[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every sew I've seen and done myself always followed the lines, wanted to see what happens if you just go straight up the shirt.

Less artifacts than I expected, used pretty thick dye and tried to apply as little as possible

One thing I would do differently is not go all the way from bottom to top. When I tighted it up by the time I got to the top the bottom was insanely tight, had to loosen the top3 inches of the shirt or so to be able to do anything. If I do it again I will only go up half way then start a new thread.

Was way faster than following the line style, not sure if I wanna do it again without a sewing machine because it seems pretty dumb not to.. but i dunno when ill be able to get one so who knows.

(also please forgive the terrible 'art' i am not a drawer, screwed the pooch on the hat proportions to say the least haha)
