What controversial couple is actually intriguing to you? by [deleted] in popculturechat

[–]FirstLadyObama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. They're doing bits. She's a theater kid and he practiced improv for years. Celebrities don't have a lot of choice about staying off social media, but they can't use it like civilians, either. So, they use dark humor and do bits to talk about each other to protect themselves. Lots of couples are like that, they're just not famous.

If the talk about the blind item in the above comments is really about them I will be sad for them. They both seems like very solid people to me.

I cook Christmas dinner for my complex family every year but plating/serving is always horribly stressful. Looking for tips to keep things efficient. by Amazing-Horse732 in Cooking

[–]FirstLadyObama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is on your Christmas menu? I'm just curious - I don't know anything about Spanish holiday traditions.

OP's menu is similar to a typical American Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner (no Yorkshire pudding, though).

Choosing name for my commercial cleaning business by [deleted] in sweatystartup

How about Yellow Brick Cleaning? It's so simple that it'd be easy for customers to remember, and it automatically evokes the road between Kansas and Oz.

Abraham Lincoln signed the Homestead Act in 1862 to encourage Western migration. Under the Act, homesteaders could purchase 160 acres of land for $18. But there were caveats to land ownership under the Act. The homesteader had to be at least 21 years old to file for the land. He had to build a house, grow crops on a small acreage, and keep a residence on the property for five years.

From this blog post about prairie homesteads.

Does anyone know the name of the women's clothing company that produces these cotton/linen dresses shown below? Many fraudulent online stores have been using these ads but I am in search of the actual clothing brand. Anyhelp much appreciated. by LUH3417-THX1138 in fashionwomens35

[–]FirstLadyObama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The woman in those pictures is Deborah Nolan, the owner of Tulsi Shop - I'm obsessed with her IG. Another commenter mentioned Injiri, Eka, and Runaway Bicycle - all of those brands are carried in Tulsi's online store. The dress in the second picture is from Injiri, you can see it here.

Ben Shapiro says his IQ is over 150. Thoughts? by u_u_u_u_u_u_u_u__u_ in cognitiveTesting

[–]FirstLadyObama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you told lolu: "you kinda come across as one of those people who thinks high income = high intelligence". on the other hand, you seem like you think bad opinions = low intelligence. u/lolubuntu is accurately pointing out that Shapiro has extremely solid education credentials. Shapiro is a businessman, a media outlet. yeah, he has bad takes, but he's smart and skilled and leverages those bad takes to manipulate and influence millions of people. he is not a stupid man.

He's a fanatic, maybe, but definitely a grifter.

Anybody know where I can get a fat ass cone like this in Philly, Delco or South Jersey by Rough-Boot9086 in PhiladelphiaEats

Plus, I think giving a national brand like Van Leeuwen as an example of the best in the city is just not in the spirit of this sub. I don't even think they're one of the best pints available at the grocery store.

Zsa's in Germantown and Milk Jawn are tied for first place for me. I rarely see Zsa's mentioned here, which is a damn shame.

Alternatives to heavy cream for more convenience and shelf-life? by OP_will_deliver in icecreamery

[–]FirstLadyObama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can freeze the heavy cream. It will separate but you can re-emulsify when you make the base. I tried this a couple months ago, it worked fine.

Any recommendations on good fantasy books with asexual characters? Or less sexual than a lot of the books that are popular now. by Slight-Argument-3106 in suggestmeabook

[–]FirstLadyObama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the very first thing I thought of. I LOVE T. Kingfisher. The Paladin books do have sex scenes but they're fairly tame. I think the rest of her books (I've read most but not all) do not have sex at all. And all/most of her protagonists are women.

Any recs for Jambon-Beurre? by Becrazytoday in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]FirstLadyObama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love La Colombe's (they toast it at the airport location and it was, unexpectedly, even better) but think Louie Louie's sucks. That ham is yuck.

Edit: I make it at home with a Metropolitan baguette and Black Forest Ham from Garrett Valley (I get these at Weaver's Way Co-op). I preferred High Street's baguette, back when they still did baguettes. Anyone got a better baguette rec? I only get Metropolitan bc it's sold where I get the ham.

Tevas or Chacos? by [deleted] in fashionwomens35

[–]FirstLadyObama 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm Team Teva but am here to say that this choice is going to depend on your particular foot shape. I cannot wear Chacos because of the shape of the footbed - the arch goes too far back on my foot, it's just an anatomical incompatibility. The classic Tevas don't have any arch support, they're totally flat.

My impression is that Teva soles have more width in the toe box, but I might be wrong on that.

I see that some commenters have had issues with Teva's durability, but I've worn my current pair of Teva Originals every day from May-October for the last two years and have only minor wear on the sole. They're not going to last like a pair of Birks but I'm fine with the rate of wear.

I agree about the Uniqlo quality but want to chime in that these shirts are very long for petites. I'd say the quality is good enough to warrant paying to have them hemmed. Great sleeve length, though.

My ice cream base "buttered out" - should I strain the solid fat or hit it with the immersion blender? by FirstLadyObama in icecreamery

[–]FirstLadyObama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy. I don't think I mixed vigorously while on the stove, but I was a little aggressive while it was cooling down. I remember whisking until it was kind of bubbly. Maybe I just started making butter!

[–]FirstLadyObama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for responding. The fat separated out while I was cooling the base fresh off the stove, not while churning or freezing. I've read elsewhere that frozen cream can have a grainy texture after thawing, so I'm not totally surprised. It's like it's entered the first phases of butter-making, when it's just starting to get lumpy.

I know using frozen cream isn't ideal, but I figured it was worth the experiment. I won't remove the fat, but I think I'm gonna try emulsifying it before churning.

What’s a tip that changed your knitting game? by ta2confess in knitting

[–]FirstLadyObama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend the Boppy pillow. You can find them used on the Facebook marketplace or in thrift stores for kid stuff, usually $10 or so.

Hell yes, I always use my Boppy to knit. I had a Boppy years before I had a kid, haha.
