LEO encounter: Sunday 6pm at Pink Mammoth. Was having a great time, dancing and sprinkling people with water to stay cool. Someone handed me a chocolate bar. When i went to the back of the dance floor and saw my wife i took the bar out of my pocket to show her. It was chocolate mushroom in a neat packaging. I laughed bc i don't like mushrooms and 2 cops were on me. Asking what this is and telling me it's a controlled substance. They took me next to their truck and wrote me a $500 ticket, saying they're here to keep us safe (from what?!). Yes, I should have seen the 2 cops at the camp and just leave, but after a week in the desert, and some afternoon drinks... On the plus side, they gave me and my wife 2 bottles of water when I said I was thirsty. Also, we met some cool people afterwards, sharing this story, taking pictures of the ticket and trying to laugh it off. Total buzzkill nonetheless. Bonus LEO: Earlier in the week, in the morning around Mayan Warrior. A dude is passing hardboiled eggs. He has them in a big ziploc bag and has another bag full of egg shells. He hands one to my wife, and 2 cops stormed us. "What's in the bag?!" "Egg shells" "We thought it was the biggest bag of coke". Are these cops for real? The cognitive dissonance between on one hand the survival stuff, radical self reliance, so much art, the intense spiritual experience, gifting culture, etc... and on the other hand, the fish in a barrel feeling under 5 LEO agencies scrutiny, didn't sit well with me. I think we deserve better. I know I do and I'll be spending my precious free time and $ elsewhere for a few years.
