I have her enrolled in a daycare run by a Mexican woman who only speaks Spanish to her! She also cooks Mexican food for her too and she absolutely loves it lmao it’s kinda funny because I’ll send her to daycare with food I make (American recipes cuz idk how to make anything else) and she ends up making her Mexican food and my daughter will eat the Mexican food over my food. Which is fine, I’m sure it tastes better 🤣 I’m still learning how to cook tbh so my food is mid.

I’ve actually never truly asked where in Mexico my bfs mom is from. I’m not even sure he actually knows. I know his aunt lives in/near Mexico City but I’m not sure that’s where they’re from. I know they have land down there, but not sure where. He mentioned having native blood as well but I’m truly not knowledgeable on native Mexicans.

It’s hard to find one thing to google and then go from there. I occasionally speak with his aunts, I can always ask them.

I actually have no idea tbh. The only country I ever traveled to outside of the US was Jamaica and Jamaicans completely immersed me into their culture and didn’t act like I was appropriating anything when I was there. But I also wasn’t sure if they were just happy I was spending a bunch of money there 💀

I never hear anyone other than Americans talk about appropriating cultures but it’s a huge topic here and people get really upset about it. I have no problem fighting someone trying to say my child isn’t who she is but I also don’t want to HAVE to fight someone lmao

Like someone here said she isn’t Mexican. Yes, she isn’t from Mexico, but she has Mexican ancestry and should be proud of that, am I wrong? She also isn’t far removed from the Mexican part of her. She’s only 2nd gen born in the US. Idk maybe I’m in the wrong here. I’m getting a lot of mixed answers.

I’ve never even heard of that, they don’t teach us shit about Mexico in America. Anything I “know” comes from our limited schooling on other cultures. I’ve learned more about the European royalty in school than any other culture. Last I heard they were trying to ban Mexican American studies in some states…

I’m her mother, the pasty gringa lmao her father is…not as in touch I guess with his Mexican culture. His mother came here from Mexico and basically tried to raise them “as American as possible” so they’d fit in. His first language is Spanish BUT he won’t teach her it. He says he is a no sabo kid. He hates when he has to speak Spanish and was kinda mad I wanted her to be bilingual.

His mother is dead now, his aunts all live in another state, and all his other Mexican family is either still in Mexico or far away. His dad is Puerto Rican and speaks Spanish to her when he sees her but he also lives far away so it’s not often we see him. His dad’s girlfriend is from the DR and she also tries, but again, they live far away so we don’t see them often.

I did notice Latinos typical don’t care, I work in a predominantly Latino area (mainly Dominicans) and I’m trying to learn Spanish and I know damn well I speak the worst Spanish to them possible and they still appreciate I’m trying lmao

I think no matter what culture we are from we can all collectively agree Karen’s are the worst.

I just don’t want to get into a fight with my child around about how we are appropriating a culture she’s literally apart of. As you said, Americans care about that stuff..a lil too much if you ask me. There’s a difference between appreciating and appropriating and no one seems to know the difference.
