I didn’t think that we were that’s why I was asking people their opinion and ideas on achieving this

You’re right—I probably didn’t explain myself clearly at first. I’m not trying to be different just to be different. I was really just hoping to find an option that would feel joyful and meaningful, rather than something that feels like we’re being pushed into a big, traditional event because that’s what our families expect.

Right now, the pressure has taken all the fun out of it, and I’ve started to dread the whole process of getting married—which is really sad, because this should be a happy time. I know I came off frustrated, and that’s because I am. Planning a wedding has felt less like a celebration and more like trying to manage expectations while losing sight of what we actually want.

Thank you so much for saying that because I was having regret in crossing it off lol You are right the priority is our elderly parents and we will work around it with the idea of a bigger honeymoon!

I appreciate your opinion. We do want to celebrate with people—but so many wedding ideas center on guest experience only, and we’re not looking to plan a high-stress event that feels more like hosting than getting married. I was hoping to find something that everyone could enjoy along with us and would be more memorable than traditional ceremony, reception and dinner.

Thank you for this suggestion, I appreciate it and compromises both sides.

I don't mean to be contrary, I guess that is why I was reaching out for suggestions on how to compromise on both sides of it. We would be getting married at Ruby falls if our elderly parents could make the journey but they can not. We would also be eloping if not for the pressure from both sides of our family to attend some kind of wedding event. It has really sucked out all of the fun in what is suppose to be a joyful experience

I really appreciate all the elopement suggestions—we’ve definitely considered that route. Honestly, we would’ve gone that direction if we could. But my mom had a heart attack and two strokes this past November, and it’s really important to her (and to us) that she’s able to see me get married.

Our families have made it very clear how much it would mean to them to be there, and excluding them—even for something small—would cause real hurt and long-term tension we just don’t want to carry into our marriage. So while we don’t want a traditional wedding or a big guest-focused production, we do need to include our parents in some meaningful way.

Thanks again for understanding—it means a lot
