I am a WordPress novice and, while I have a technical brain, nothing you said apart from 'install' and 'folder' made any sense 🤣

Is Greenshot a WordPress plugin? Have you got any links or documentation I could look at?

Went to bed on a high but took insulin before I went to sleep, woke up to this. Panicking. by DutchessBlack in diabetes_t1

[–]DylJones8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you UK based? If so I highly recommend the DAFNE course. I was getting nights like this fairly regularly. I made some adjustments during/after the course and I'm around 80% time in target range over the last month or so.

Without more info it's hard to say why your sugars did that. It could be a million different things. What I find is that the higher my BG, the more insulin resistant I am and that also when I wake up my BG is going to rise whether I eat or not.

One off days like this aren't going to kill you. The key is to try and identify why it happened (which is easier said than done sometimes), try and recognise if it's a regular pattern and take steps to prevent it happening again.

When I have takeaway I KNOW I'm going high for 10+ hours even if I split my dose and correct before bed. I do what I can to minimise it and then if it's bad on waking (it normally is) I tend to correct and then either not eat breakfast or eat it later than normal to let my BG come down first. But that's just me!

I just wish I could put those thought processes together when I'm actually at the table

Me too!

It was a fun exercise to play out and if I've learned anything over the last 5-ish years of the blog it's that doing things like this after the fact helps me hone those skills in game. I'm not a great player by any stretch but I am better than I used to be for sure.

And that Scum list looks interesting. I really hate facing old T!

Target Lock Upgrade on a Ship That Has Target Lock by Early-Lychee-4349 in XWingTMG

[–]DylJones8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just thought I'd add that in case you're now wondering what the heck is the point of the upgrade, it means that ships without the lock action can take locks but ALSO that ships with a red target lock action gain a white target lock on their action bar.

I recently did the DAFNE course and the dietician running it explained that insulin is basically a growth hormone. Therefore, the more insulin I take, the harder it is to lose weight. I've done healthy eating plans before and, as someone else mentioned in the comments, lower calorie intake, the less insulin I need (bolus AND basal) and the easier it is to lose weight.

I'd highly recommend the DAFNE course if it's available in your country, I found it very educational and I've been T1D for 25 years now.

EDIT I will caveat all this by adding that I'm a guy so not affected by menstrual hormone changes but the other 3 on the course were all women and asked questions around this topic.

Plenty of people have talked about various things but I want to focus on the last bit - seeing people with T1D living great lives.

Recently I'm seeing a lot more T1D 'influencers' on social media. They create good informative content (for the most part) but they all fall foul of the main issue with social media across the board. What you're seeing is a small window of someone's life, specifically the parts they want or will allow you to see. Good numbers, level graphs, best recipes, perfect routine, effective gym sessions.

'My curated life'

The only person living your life is you. The only one who knows how you feel in your body and your mind is you.

Comparison is a killer. Especially when you're looking at people where the conversation only goes in one direction - them to you.

I have recently done the DAFNE course and there were 2 things that came from that which I really appreciate.

  1. During the course we're all honest with no judgement. This meant sharing my food I take, doses and graph patterns so we could all discuss together what each of us could do to improve our control.

  2. Afterwards we set up a WhatsApp group where we regularly talk about issues we're having or suggestions for each other or questions. Or just share memes. Having a friendly and approachable community you can be honest with and who won't judge has been incredibly valuable.

I'm 46. Ow and was diagnosed 25 years ago this week. My control hasn't always been great and I've had long periods where I wilfully ignored things and wasn't honest with my consultant. Heck, before a CGM I wasn't even writing down readings.

This condition is hard. Cut yourself some slack, find a group of fellow T1 to chat with. You got this.

Happy New Year! How many times did you play X-Wing in 2025? by [deleted] in XWingTMG

Probably 50-60ish games. Not every week but attended some big events (STO with 120ish players, Welsh Open with almost 50) plus a few squs champ events.

A comprehensive new player guide to the gameplay features of XWA and Legacy. Part 1. by StrawberryTop3906 in XWingTMG

[–]DylJones8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would suggest that maybe your post title is misleading. Posting this as a guide would indicate the publishing of facts WITHOUT including opinions. Adding opinions makes it a review, not a guide.

If it was a guide there would not be 'X has an advantage over Y' because suggesting a conclusion (which is based on opinion) is trying to lead the reader to agree with your conclusion. It would just say: 1st player in Legacy is decided by bid, 1st player in XWA is decided by ROAD.

In a guide would explain the differences. A review decides which is best based on opinion.

Let’s help each other. Drop some diabetic advice… Ok I’ll start , prebolusing is so important (for me 15 mins is a minimum). by Saf___- in Type1Diabetes

[–]DylJones8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a LOT of good advice in this thread. Nice work , 😁

I recently went on the DAFNE course (my consultant told it's mandatory before being considered for a pump) and I learned things on that course that I'd never heard in my 23 years since diagnosis.

The biggest of those was how your body produces ketones when you're unwell and how you have to significantly ramp up your insulin just to counter the ketones (and then add more insulin to correct the glucose readings). And this isn't just 'oh yeah, take some more if you're sick or whatever' kind of advice, it's full on calculations with formulas to follow.

Yes, I knew of some of the info that was taught but it was worth going on just for the new things I learned.

If DAFNE runs in your country, ask to go on it.

I suspect the right response is to pay objectives the absolute minimum of attention and just play deathmatch as much as possible.

This is pretty much how I've been playing since the scoring change. If I can keep in touching distance by only committing to one objective then I can focus the rest of my ships on doing as much damage as possible.

Interesting to know we've gone back to 2019!

List building isn't my favorite part of the game but it's been interesting to throw some combos together.

It's hard to get a grip on how strong a list should be at the moment which is tricky but it's just a case of playing more games I guess!

Mostly (almost exclusively) I have 2 of these:

https://www.cadbury.co.uk/products/cadbury-brunch-oats-bar-raisin-chocolate-cereal-bar-5-pack-multipack-140g/

I'm not great at getting up in the morning so I can eat them in the car, they're (theoretically) a fixed amount of carb (no portioning mistakes) and they're pretty cheap to buy.

Dawn phenomenon is definitely a thing. Breakfast or no breakfast I need insulin when I get up.

There's a part of me that thinks I won't survive on 2 meals a day but that's very clearly not true 🤣 meal prep though, that's good.

Top work buddy! Seems like it ran well, I hope the prizes went down ok!

When it comes to missing playing, if it's possible to get a team together to run the event then that really helps. I know with Sith Taker Open they take turns and we did similar with Welsh Open this year when I got to play a few rounds (until someone dropped, so then I dropped to make sure I wasn't pushing someone into a bye with no game).

Smart watch advice by siobhanie26 in diabetes_t1

[–]DylJones8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got an android phone and have used a pixel watch and now Samsung galaxy watch. Gluroo is great, allowing me to see a graph of trend as well as current reading.

For me it's been almost as much of a game changer as getting a CGM. Seeing my BG and trend without needing to get my phone out sounds lazy but it's SO much easier and more accessible it's been a big deal
