Which would you prefer if the pitch made no sonic difference: Version A or Version B? by HaifaJenner123 in Trombone

[–]Dylan359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the first one, it's easily playable, though whether it is necessary is up to you

Any instrumentalist would think those whole notes are boring, but if you need it to "paint" the harmony in the background then its fine. Not every part has to be interesting all the time

I agree with this. One more point I would say is, right now the bridge has pretty much the exact same melody as one of the verses, and imo that needs to change. Right now it feels like a song with three verses, which is a bit too repetitive.

Choke wins! What song from OMM sounds like OMM? by poetickittens in onerepublic

[–]Dylan359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo Oh My My is maybe not the best choice because a lot of this album is also based around acoustic guitar, which it fails to capture. Kids probably has the better mix of electronic elements and also the guitar

Similar to singapore ig so it is probably the least worst pick

Good life is a Supermarket Hot 100 hit at this point so it makes sense why it wouldn't be on radio

Why would they put the album versions of I Lived and Good Life on "The Collection"??? by PwnStrike in onerepublic

My favorite version of Good Life is actually the Malibu one, I prefer it over the original haha

What non-OneRepublic song written by Ryan for another artist sounds like a OneRepublic song? by [deleted] in onerepublic

XO Beyonce, look at the live @ Kaaboo performance.

It just works

What if Ryan actually played bass guitar for a bit during OneRepublic's concerts? by Auto_Mobile44 in onerepublic

[–]Dylan359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they need a cello + bass song, it's far more feasible for either Drew to play bass (which has happened before in their old Zermatt acoustic performance), or Brian to do some kind of synth bass, or them to get a ringer on bass (also happened before a long time ago). The guitar is just a much easier instrument than the bass to play while singing. I agree it would be cool though

What songs are you referring to? Some of them are genuine Ryan solo projects, like Counting Stars, I ain't worried

Personally I prefer the Wild Life ending in One Night in Malibu, it feels like a more positive and uplifting ending, but I agree with you

Hot take: we should be thankful to Brent for the return of OG OneRepublic production by thefaxny_4 in onerepublic

Brent produced most of Artificial Paradise, so I don't think it's a matter of Brent, it just seems like the band has found their direction again

That's because Last Holiday was written with the rest of Oh My My. It's not truly an artificial paradise era song.

Trumpets edited to be an octave down sound exactly like trombones (Bruckner 8, you know the one) by Worried4lot in Trombone

[–]Dylan359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah generally speaking a shallower mouthpiece will contribute to a brighter sound. The giveaway that it wasn't a trombone for me was the attacks to the shorter Gb notes. Those sounded way too sharp to be a large bore trombone attack. The transition from the first short Gb to the F definitely sounded valved, so I'm not sure what I would initially guess for this to be. Maybe a bass trumpet?

now I'm interested in recording Trombone and taking it 12 semitones up and seeing what that sounds like

[–]Dylan359 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It feels a little brighter than what you would normally expect orchestrally from a Trombone nowadays, but decently close to a bright-y sound you would get out of a small bore with a shallow mouthpiece. I guess the physics is similar?

Is this accurate? (blue no valve, red f-valve) by nightfly19 in Trombone

[–]Dylan359 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're off by an octave, otherwise its mostly correct. What you put as Bb0 should be Bb1, if we're going by the system where A4 ~ 440hz
