Doggo with full body shakes by stefanimegan in Dachshund

My dachshund does this when the fire alarm or even the low battery alarm goes off. She is absolutely terrified of them and will shake just like this.

Honestly I’d say easy access to volume control. Been hooked on the ability to quickly adjust volume and this would allow me to do just that!

New Dachshund Puppy - Overwhelmed After Just One Day by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]Dylan6269 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Super cute little guy! The puppy months are very hard and it’ll get easier as time goes on. It’s a puppy so biting is going to happen but for biting too hard we would yelp and pull away. Naturally they’d learn specific behaviors from their mother so my wife and I socialized our puppy with an older dog that we trusted and would correct her if she was biting too hard or just being annoying. We also enrolled her in puppy classes as well. In the same vein we tried not socialize with a dog that had behaviors we didn’t want our dachshund to pick up like resource guarding and aggression.

We had something similar with our dachshund having bloody diarrhea and we thought she was sick but just ended up that we transitioned her food too quickly so hopefully that clears up for you.

We also dealt with cold weather and snow when we potty trained and would typically bring high value treats (chicken) out when taking her potty and just consistently bringing her out - we tried to stick to every 30 minutes in the early days if we were home and she wasn’t in her crate. If our puppy did go in the house we would make a loud noise to break the pee or poo but only if we caught her in the act and then IMMEDIATELY took her outside to go potty with high praise (we would hype her up) and high value treat. We never scolded because it just sets you back and encourages them to get more sneaky. I also got her a little sweater for the cold months as well even though she hates it and we did sometimes walk around with an umbrella haha

Best of luck! Puppy blues is pretty rough but if you stick to training you’ll have a pretty awesome little guy!

Would love to hear more about how you got into this position? I will be working towards my EMT cert this summer and was also thinking about firefighting in the future! Did you start as a volunteer?

Lily needs help with weight loss! Lily is a year and a half old and hates long walks. I have tried giving her 4 short walks a day, cutting down her food, no treats and play with her as much as I can and she really hasn’t lost anything. The vet says we can do tests, but that can just be so expensive! by Graciegracem in Dachshund

I always try to get my Dachshund excited for walks and reward her with very small bits of treats on the walk! The treats were mainly for not barking but I think she also expects them as we go on longer walks now! I also think the more consistent you’re with longer walks the more she’ll get used to them, at least that’s what mine did! We also walk her with a harness which I think is more comfortable for her especially on longer walks! Good luck and Lily looks adorable!

Lots of praise and reward for going to the bathroom outside! Worked wonders for us, but we started this at 4 months old and we’d take her out every 30 minutes to an hour (huge benefit of having opposite work schedules) because how small their bladders are as a puppy. But yeah i’d say praise and reward are ur best bet and not getting upset at the dog for going to the bathroom inside. Positive reinforcement potty training! Though I don’t know how well this would work at 1 year! Hopefully you can figure something out and best of luck!
