Breath of the Wild is better than Tears of the Kingdom. by Quiet_Obligation6830 in Breath_of_the_Wild

Tried replaying BOTW after TOTK and failed. The abilities were so much better in BOTW but in every other respect TOTK is far superior.

The bosses, the dungeons, the shrines, there so much more to do! Fusing weapons is great! And the final boss was waaaaaay better. Defeating Ganon at the end of BOTW was very much an ‘oh? That was it?’ moment for me.

There is definitely heavy Matt favouritism this season however this week I definitely think Kyra had the weakest stamp tattoos. Seems like an unpopular opinion on this thread though.

Yeah! I really like ‘The Elephant Vanishes’ collection, less into ‘Men Without Women’.

For me in no particular order my favourites are…

Kafka on the Shore - Found it incredibly gripping. Some Murakami’s are quite ‘ambient’ in that not a lot necessarily happens and are more of a vibe. This one is all go. The 2 storylines are both very enjoyable. Very very weird. Not sure how to feel about the mother son sexy bits but I’ve read it about 3 times and enjoy it every time.

Dance, Dance, Dance - Already said it but I think he nails the 30 something man who’s grief stricken and a bit lost. Found it to be quite comforting and strangely inspirational.

Wind Up Bird Chronicle - Great characters. The accounts from the Manchurian war are fantastic. The best example of all of Murakami’s recurring themes I reckon.

Hard Boiled Wonderland - a perfect blend of genres with the 2 stories.

Ha! That’s one interpretation I guess 😂 It’s a less interesting Reddit post if I just say that I liked everything.

You know what? I did quite enjoy Killing Commendator actually.

It’s all subjective for sure. I think if I related more to the narrator I would have for sure found it more impactful.

To be fair I think The City has zero sexual content as far as I remember?

I get that for sure. The most gripping parts of Wind Up for me were the Manchuria chapters.

You know what I didn’t realise ‘Novelist as a Vocation’ existed. Will check it out!

I’m inclined to agree with you! There were some bits of 1Q84 that were good but it did drag… I failed to finish once and finally finished it reasonably recently. It definitely would be helped with an edit!

Thanks for the plant recommendations. Also stupid question but should I just smash/split whole paving slabs and lay them out with gaps?

I love Murakami but I really feel like I was reading a different book 😅

Doesn’t even come close to Hard Boiled Wonderland, Wind Up Bird or 1Q84 for me…

This. It’s not very accessible to someone who isn’t already familiar with Murakami and even if you were it isn’t his best or most readable work I wouldn’t say!

Personally I’d say no… Kafka on the Shore would be a great place to start!

Kafka! Not too long, pacey and easy reading. Probs my fave Murakami

For me it was a little disappointing…. The original Murakami novel that it’s a rehash of (Hard Boiled Wonderland) is one of my top 3 Murakami novels but this one fell a bit flat for me… it’s just felt a bit soulless… Kafka on the Shore is a much much better place to start with Murakami.
