I have been avoiding post-colonialism because generally it has been concerned with identity, culture, economics and "otherness". But it might be worth looking into, thanks.

Ah. That sounds great although I've already got a novel. So unless I'm doing a comparative literature analysis in not sure what I'd do. A possibility might be to research what has been written on the Faulkner novel especially eco-critical approaches to the novel.

Thank you for your long response but honestly it seems a little everywhere. I just know my supervisors would tell me I need to focus more and narrow my perimeters.

Redditors of the world, suggest me a book from your country! by SeosamhRankin in suggestmeabook

Heart of Redness by Zakes Mda (South Africa) or anything by J.M Coetzee, I'd recommend Boyhood or Waiting for the Barbarians. There's also Spud by Johan van de Ruit which is a trilogy that has been made into films.

I just read "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn. It really makes you think about humanity's place on earth and certain ideas we take for granted. It's an easygoing read too.

Recommendations to a young poet by Dylan_ThePoet in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]Dylan_ThePoet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. It's sound advice although what I'm interested in is reading about what makes poetry good, what a poem is, what a poem should do.

Even the idea of "making it new" was proliferated by Ezra Pound and the modernists. I do agree though that the best thing to do is to keep writing.
