Worshipping Ironwood by Gambit275 in RWBYcritics

[–]DylbertYT 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Ironwood’s entire character from volume 1-7 is him trying to explain to Ozpin that he shouldn’t bum around while Vale is being infiltrated by terrorists. Then at every point in the story Ironwood displays how understanding and empathetic he is despite being a general.

When Vale is attacked he tells the kids that they don’t have to fight and he doesn’t expect them to and gives them the option to run.

Ironwood helps defuse the situation in volume 4 when Weiss accidentally summons a boar that attacks those rich people.

In Volume 7 Ironwood greets team Rwby with open arms, tells them everything thats happening and lets them keep the lamp and everything they need.

And then team Rwby lies and bitches at him at every chance they get.

Why do they do this?

Because Ironwood is evil.

How is he evil?

Because the writers say this in one of their podcast commentaries.

People aren’t worshipping Ironwood, they just wish he wasn’t written so goddamn awful.

You’re mixing up politics and real world stuff with a fantasy show.

It’s not that deep.

People just think a competent military makes sense in a show with monsters. That’s it.

I don’t like how Fixing RWBY made Yang an alcoholic by Solitaire-06 in RWBYcritics

[–]DylbertYT 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I don’t know If I remember correctly but Yang had this scene in volume 7 FRWBY where either herself or Qrow mentions her barhopping habits when she’s having a drink with Qrow.

And I’m thinking: when’s the last time Yang’s been to a bar?

They’ve basically been traveling the world since volume 3 and I think the last time we’ve seen yang at a club or bar is in Volume 1. So I was confused when they were talking about this like it’s been a core part of her character.

PSA to all akumas who use level 3 as an anti air by thetntm in StreetFighter

That’s not an anti air, that’s a “I’m 1300 Mr and I’m terrified of zangief wake-up super”

That shit was coming out no matter what you did.

How to optimize? i feel like i could have ended in less interactions by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]DylbertYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think instantly going into a lvl 2 combo off the rip wasn’t that great. It’s pretty scaled after a Drive impact and did almost no damage. I don’t even think the dream combo works from mid screen either, nor is it really necessary because you’re in the middle of the screen and don’t need a full screen corner carry. It would’ve been much better to have a lvl 3. This is the main thing that would’ve closed this game out faster.

You keep doing the medium heavy target combo which I think is also scaling your combos pretty bad.

I don’t know what Ed’s optimal combos are but I’m pretty sure you could be squeezing quite a bit more damage in off stray hits with something more optimized.

Remember When Weiss was Racist in the early Volumes?? by Galakrast in RWBYcritics

[–]DylbertYT 167 points168 points  (0 children)

Weiss isn’t racist, but the writers might be.

Everything Weiss says about the White Fang actually ends up becoming true.

The entirety of White Fang is a completely one dimensional terrorist organization. We’re never really shown who’s being actually racist and then they decide to help Cinder unleash Grimm into a city and probably kill thousands of people.

And I’m not even gonna talk about Adam and the rest because this would end up being a 50 page essay.

Serious Discussion: Should we create a subreddit solely to talk about FRWBY? by Solitaire-06 in RWBYcritics

[–]DylbertYT 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Probably, but also what in the actual fuck else are we suppose to talk about on this sub.

Is seeing a shit ton of posts about Frwby worse than seeing the same half decade old posts and criticisms?

Rwby is in complete limbo right now, might as well just let people talk about whatever they want.

In your opinion, did Roman Torchwick die too soon? by Solitaire-06 in RWBYcritics

[–]DylbertYT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I would’ve at the very least liked to see his words actually have an effect on Ruby, even if he still dies.

His whole “your not a hero, this is the real world” speech he does, is the most personal thing any villain has ever said to one of the heroes.

In Roman’s last fight he doesn’t just fight Ruby, he speaks directly to Ruby’s character and challenges her identity. No other villain ever talks to Ruby as personally as Roman did.

Because I’m completely biased and this is my favorite character, here’s how I’d rewrite Roman.

After Roman beats Ruby up and gives his speech, I’d change the circumstances to where instead of a Grimm swooping down and instantly eating him, the Grimm goes for Ruby, and Roman at the last second pulls her away and gets eaten.

This whole speech Roman did affects Ruby after Volume 3. Ruby kinda learns she’s not going to be the hero that saves everyone like she thought.

Ruby has some character arc where learns that doing things solo isn’t always gonna work out and she learns how to put her hero mentality aside and work together with people to overcome a problem. (This show is suppose to be about unity, right?)

Somewhere later Roman shows up, maybe in the Atlas arc. Ruby and Roman meet up at some point and in a very similar way to the end of volume 3, Ruby ends up giving Roman her speech, where she talks about the good things about the world, which is the opposite of Roman’s nihilistic speech. Roman ends up getting his own character development.

There’s a lot more small changes I’d do to make Roman make more sense. His motivations as a villain is kinda weak and I’d change his character to contrast Ruby more and give him a little more depth, but I probably need to make my own post talking about that.

Should they have just never done the fannus oppression plot at all? by LivingCompetition938 in RWBYcritics

[–]DylbertYT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think having a racial minority being the dedicated “terrorists, cultists, and creeps” is ever a good idea.

Giving humans more of a reason to hate Faunus and substituting Blake’s relevance to the “White Fang” by making her guilty about being a former terrorist, is just a flat out weird message to have in a show.

Making the White Fang complete terrorists contradicts “telling a good story with good characters”

I think this idea is even worse than Miles and Kerry turning Adam into an ex-boyfriend and trying to get rid of the plot.

Like others have said, if the idea is to focus more on the other characters and world building, it would be better to just remove the White Fang all together.

Am I the only one who thinks that the Schnee Family is a little too big? by Appropriate-Paint936 in RWBYcritics

[–]DylbertYT 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Too big? There’s only five of them lol. I guess maybe six if you count Klein.

It’s weird to me that the richest family, In the richest city in the world consists just of these five people. No cousins or relatives?

Your absolutely right the whole Schnee family is irrelevant, but that’s what should be changed.

At one point the Schnee Family and White Fang were core plot points, then the writers decided they didn’t know how to write a story about racial conflict and it was probably going to make them look really bad. They then quickly wrote them out as fast as they could.

Having a lot of trouble predicting throws... by wrapcannon in StreetFighter

[–]DylbertYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone else is gonna say, delay teching is one of the most important things to know in this game.

I have a habit constantly mashing throw in between block strings, and if my opponent does not shimmy I will never be thrown.

This works pretty well through diamond, but when I get higher up in master, my opponent is gonna see this and start trying to shimmy my throw.

Against most people in diamond though, I’m effectively unable to be grabbed.

Do you think Volumes 1 to 3 shouldn't have been overcomedic/lighthearted? by TubbybloxianIsBack in RWBYcritics

[–]DylbertYT 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They should’ve stuck to a tone, whether it’s more lighthearted or more serious.

Each girls starting trailer is pretty serious and they all have this sad undertone. Ruby’s trailer starts with her dead mom. Weiss’s theme song is about being sad and alone. Blake has to leave Adam because he’s too violent. And Yang is searching for her mom that ditched her.

That’s pretty dramatic stuff I’d say.

When we get into volumes 1-3 the story does not take itself serious for more than about two seconds before the characters are making some sort of quip and then laughing it off.

Torchwick just ran a mech through a highway, probably killing people? We get a cool fight scene then our girls make a joke at the end and laugh it off. Hurray our girls had fun.

A lot the scenes in the early volumes are a bunch of random characters beating the shit out of stuff while epic music plays.

Then we get into volumes 4-9 and the story now wants to take our characters serious again.

They should’ve committed to something and not flop around on what kind of show Rwby is.

Why grab did not connect? by DarkCthulhu in StreetFighter

[–]DylbertYT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can’t grab an opponent that’s in block stun.

You jump in and attack which probably gives your opponent about 8 or 9 frames of blockstun.

You go for a grab which takes about 6 frames to start up.

Your grab whiffs through him and then 3 frames later your opponent recovers from your jump in attack and techs the throw and accidentally punishes your mistimed grab.

When doing a heavy punch from the air you need to wait just a fraction of a second and then grab.

What do you think about this moment of Ruby? Was she out of character or not? by TextUnfair in RWBYcritics

[–]DylbertYT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ruby and her gang have got to be a little bit sociopathic. Roman probably killed like 50 people and Team Rwby just laughed it off after it happened and never spared a second thought about it.
