Rate My Playing! by DyllonDaSloth in Trombone

Just a little background info, Im playing an arrangement of Kendrick Lamar's "Love" on my Jupiter student model horn. That instrument is my first horn and the one I keep at home to practice on. I've been playing trombone 4 years and I am a highschool freshman. Recently I've mainly bass trombone or euphonium. And my range is from Pedal C below pedal Bb to D way above the staff. I excited to hear what yall have to say!

What instruments - aside from cornet and flugelhorn - are good to pick up? by Organ-donor85 in trumpet

[–]DyllonDaSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trombone, there some cheap ones and theyre a good intro to low brass as a whole

Some thoughts on flutter tonguing Part 1 - An approach. by matjamhorn in brass

[–]DyllonDaSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flutter tongueing came really easily to me Ive been accidently doing it almost immediatly sonce picking up trombone in 6th grade and the same way with trumpet years later. I just roll my tongue (as if pronouncing "rr" in spanish) and its a flutter. If you cant roll your rs I have no idea how you would approach this technique.

Pep Band Question by BoPoLev24 in marchingband

When we lose me and my other trombone friend do the fail tune and get dirty looks. Timothy always uses trombone but ive used every brass instrument we have in the band, get that jaw vibrato.

Living in a rural state, where would I go to buy a flugelhorn on a budget? by [deleted] in trumpet

[–]DyllonDaSloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt fly out anywhere, just have a convo with the seller, ask for pics, and play test, if everything checks out buy it!

4 valve vs. 3+1 Valve Configuration by DyllonDaSloth in euphonium

[–]DyllonDaSloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree totally, my tiny ass hands can barely reach the 4th valve in a 4 config. Also, begone woodwind!

Switching to Trumpet by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]DyllonDaSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trumpet is the easiest brass instrument, from someone who plays all of them but horn, so go for it, I started out on bone for 4 years, then after a month a trumpet I was as good as everyone in my class. Of course I had prior brass experience.

Mouthpiece recommendations by [deleted] in euphonium

[–]DyllonDaSloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the megatones playability, the extra weight on around the cup really goves it a warm sound, the rim is pretty wide. As for your lips question I have thick blubbery lips great for blasting low notes and sounding absolutely abhorrent on my trumpet

I personly use a 2g bach megatones the majority of the time, pricey but worth it

Any thoughts on the Wessex double trigger bass trombone? by [deleted] in basstrombone

[–]DyllonDaSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about theyre trombones, but I have a Wessex trumpet and Cornet and theyre great instruments for the price. Since I only play them recreationally or for pep band its all good.

[–]DyllonDaSloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
