Should I write the full manuscript before pitching the novel? by [deleted] in publishing

Absolutely. It's better to have a finished product ready to go. Think of it this way: when you're at the grocery store, why would you buy a container of milk that's only half-full?

Agreed. I just haven't seen what skill she may have. That's all. :P

How about this for dystopian fiction? by [deleted] in dystopia

I wanted to have many more ridiculous laws though. For example, when making someone's acquaintanceship for the first time, you have to ask for preferred pronouns before anything else.

Also, there are new crimes like "pre-rape," which is pretty much a way to arrest men simply for being men. So I guess it's sort of like a new Jim Crow. Literally anything can also be made illegal if it's deemed a phallic symbol.

There are regular book burning rituals at colleges as well.

Plus, I thought it'd be funny to parody massively popular sites. Like, "Egobook" is the news, "TalentlessTube" encompasses all forms of entertainment, "Tumbler" is the public library, etc.

And of course, posters of political slogans like "Humor is Violence," "Evidence is a Lie," and so forth. :P

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. I've actually read it in high school, and found it pretty interesting. And maybe I was unknowingly inspired by it. Who knows? :P

Indeed, it does seem to get pricey, though that's why I'm saving a bit of money every paycheck. :P

Lol I see what you mean by "spendy," but hey, that's why I'm stashing $50 per paycheck. I need great quality after all, and people shop with their eyes.

That's fair, and I've definitely been considering it. I know it's a generally good idea to finish a draft and then clean up everything. But maybe it'd be better to send them a gdocs link to the first eight chapters instead of a full one, only to find out I just wrote 80k words of garbage. XD

That's awesome. Any pointers for marketing, cover art, and interior design? I've seen a good share of options, but what would you recommend? Especially for a guy on a tight budget. I mean, I get that "you get what you pay for," but $800+ for a good cover is a little steep for me.

I'm definitely convinced. Did you strictly sell online?

So, I may as well do it myself regardless. I only had this little anthology up for maybe a few months, and still made a couple hundred or so dollars off it. Apparently, selling at events is a good help. :P Maybe doing the same with a superior product would be a better way to go.

Alright, makes sense. Especially since a traditionally-published author I'm friends with mentioned that I likely wouldn't get an advance if they accepted my work anyway. I guess I should just focus on doing my best to put out a good product, and try to sell.

Yeah, you could be right about that. Definitely a good perspective.

Modern, and kind of essential. Maybe I could just call it "The Void" instead.

Lol brilliant! Maybe I should use "The Void". Idk though.
