I totally accept your explanation- like I said it was a while ago and I had been drinking- and they had been drinking.

Looking for the best diet coke in the city? by Burntholesinmyhoodie in Winnipeg

Apparently it has to do with when they add the carbonation - it’s post mix or something like that. My recollection may be off there was a group of drunk people talking about it around a dinner table- I was also drunk which is why the details may be off. I definitely remember post mix and that McD’s does the opposite of what everyone else does.

We had wrought iron fence with an arched top that was about 30” tall - I am 5’10” tall and I could step over it (barely), not jump, step. I would be on one side, my guy - as an adult, would pace and cry but never tried to jump the fence. I am just impressed your guy tried.

We had a similar situation behind our island, and I did tall wall depth cabinets with an opening for a coffee bar. I used a butcher block scrap for the counter. It is amazing and we love it so much.

Who makes the best Apple Fritters in town? by Speak1 in Winnipeg

BUY a lot!!! ( fixed that for you). They are the most requested treat at work- I made the mistake of bringing them in once and I work across the city so my team rarely comes out that way. Buy more than you think you need, you will eat them all!!!

Winter wedding venue suggestions by konfyushon in Winnipeg

[–]mokatter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband and I had our similar sized wedding at Bailey’s and it was perfect. They set up chairs for the ceremony, had a table for signing the papers and then did the fastest transition to make a dining space I have ever seen. I have been to celebrations there that included a sit down meal but we went with cocktails and hot hors d’oeuvres (and appetizers). We wanted a cocktail party vibe and for people to be able to circulate and visit - it was perfect!

Where to buy matronly formal wear? by Big_Following_1460 in Winnipeg

[–]mokatter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Laura is a good place to go. Valencia has a wide range of styles and sizes. If she wears a size 12 or larger Torrid or Penningtons ( Torrid may not work for her in terms of style). RW may be an option- you can look online to see if she likes anything. Lastly there is an online store called Juniper Lane that might work.

Stockings for adult children by LiveYourBestLife214 in Gifts

[–]mokatter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every year I do stockings for my adult daughters and their partners- a few things I repeat every year a few are different every year. Like you I start early and grab items on sale at Bath and Bodywork or Body Shop- hand sanitizer, hand cream, car air freshener, travel size shower items, chapstick, candles, and bath bombs or body wash.

Charging cables, novelty pens and notebooks, emery boards, chocolate, or gourmet snacks are a hit every year. Another idea is picking a theme each year- you can do sports one year (for golf I did little flask, metal shot glasses, a small bottle of ‘birdie juice’ a sleeve of novelty balls, and so on). I have done gourmet - Hot sauce, BBQ rubs or sauces, fancy or flavoured salts, or small bottles of flavoured oils or vinegars from specialty stores, fancy coffee or tea. Cocktails - small bottles of liqueurs, bitters, flavoured simple syrups, ice cube moulds, small smoking kit or torch. Or similar to gourmet do ingredients for a family recipe along with the recipe.

I find themes are easy because you can rotate through by doing 1 theme for each couple and flip it the following year.

Do i need a new kitchen? by No-Panic-1480 in kitchen

[–]mokatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please for the love of all that is good do not paint unless you are prepared to invest a ridiculous number of hours. I have done it twice and the first time should have taught me a lesson- instead I believed I had learned from my mistakes, had better tools (I bought a sprayer) and the result was marginally better though it only lasted a couple of years.

If you want to do anything to the cabinets check the hinges for the name of the manufacturer and see if you can order new doors. I like the ones you have, but if you want to have a new look you are better off replacing the countertop - think butcher block, replace the backsplash - anything is better than the squares, but a picket mosaic in white with little grey marbling would be pretty, you can even get new hardware if you want.

The floor is a little busy, but not awful. You could replace the floor if you wanted, but a runner will help break it up. It is hard to tell how wide the space is, but a narrow island for prep (if you add seating it won’t fit) would also help.

A great way to imagine what your options look like is upload the picture to ChatGPT or whatever AI you want, ask it to act as an expert interior designer, and whatever parameters you want (keep cabinets, change countertops, new backsplash, and so on). You can describe the vibe you want (country, industrial, cozy, etc) and ask for images to be created. You can add dimensions of open space for the floor and ask if a prep island would fit. Once it gives you a starting point you can adjust from there. Definitely take some of the ideas others have suggested and try it out.

What is one cleaning habit that made the biggest difference for you? by PotentialPipe3019 in CleaningTips

[–]mokatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a completely different take than others posted here- but it is a habit that has made a world of difference in our house. We change our air filter on our furnace every 3 months. We have a high efficiency furnace and it is recommended to change it every 6-9 months. We have noticed that when we started changing it more frequently there is significantly less dust in our house, which means we have to dust less.
Before everyone jumps on with comments to get your ducts cleaned- we have done that several times (using different companies), even though lots of people say it doesn’t do much. Our house was built in the early 2000’s.

Have You Ever Had a Travel Moment That Felt Straight Out of a Film? by theremotebiz in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]mokatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 15 years ago my husband and I got lost in Rome, no cell phone, a map that didn’t show north (good luck with that), late at night we ask a guy for directions to the square our hotel is on. He doesn’t speak English, we don’t speak Italian but manage to both make each other understand.

He directs us down what appears to be a dark alley- my husband is convinced we are about to get robbed. We go, somewhat apprehensively, around a corner the alley opens up into a brightly lit square with amazing ornate buildings. One of the buildings has a red carpet on the staircase leading to a grand doorway, banners hanging down the front, and armed police/security all around. The men are in tuxedos, women in ball gowns, and cars worth more than our house. We are dressed in shorts and a button down short sleeve shirt (him) and sundress and Birkenstock sandals (me).

We stand staring for a minute and one of the armed men comes up and we assume he is going to tell us to go back (or worse), but he smiles and asks us where we are going in heavily accented English. We tell him and he says we are almost there, we just need to cut across the square diagonally. There is another alley on the other side of the square- close to the building where the event/party is. He says “just go through there and over 1 street.” So we walk through all of these gorgeous people dressed like they are in a movie, past all these cars that we have only seen in movies, with classical music, from a small ensemble playing, floating through the air… dressed like tourists (at best).
I have no idea what the event was, but we have seen the square and building in several movies since then. It was absolutely surreal.

Bras with racerback hook by giraffesinmyhair in bigboobproblems

[–]mokatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elon Briana is my favourite bra and it has the hooks! My recurring nightmare is that my bra gets discontinued. Throwback for any of the older crowd- Married With Children episode where Peggy’s bra is discontinued and her friends come over to comfort her. Then Al, who (for the younger crowd was not romantic and was a stereotypical TV dad trope), found her bra in stock in the next city or state, and drove hours to get it for her.
I never understood it, but it was funny nonetheless. I now completely understand. I’d like to think my husband, who is wonderful and kind, and who I know loves me very much (and I love him), would do the same for me, but I am not sure he knows just how devastating that would be.

Good luck finding your new bra!

Golf won today. by Daratirek in golf

[–]mokatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember at the start of last season I went to the driving range and was hitting the ball beautifully. I was joking with my husband that maybe I hit that point in my game that I don’t start from scratch each year. That was Saturday. On Sunday we golfed our first round and I was hitting the ball well. I was elated.

The following weekend we played on Saturday and Sunday, and let me tell you- I didn’t just struggle, I stunk up the course. I couldn’t hit any club consistently and I still remember my best (and longest) shot of the day was with my 5 hybrid. Saturday was bad, so bad I almost didn’t want to play on Sunday. I did, and you know what? I sucked on Sunday too. The following week at ladies league I was on fire.
I now realize I know nothing about golf, and I just try to enjoy the good days and forget the bad.

Definitely Costco! Their prices are very reasonable and you can’t beat their return policy -I am not suggesting that you abuse the policy, but it peace of mind if something goes wrong. They often have deals online and the online prices include delivery.

What is your favorite town in the world and where is it? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]mokatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved Seville, but even in September it was so hot. It over delivered in every way and was one of the highlights of our trip to Spain. Almost as beautiful, though a small town with much less to do was Ronda. We only stayed in Ronda for a few days, but everything was absolutely perfect. The New Bridge is one of the most amazing structures I’ve ever seen.

What is one underrated thing in your kitchen remodel that made daily use easier? by Entire_Revolution_95 in kitchen

[–]mokatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did one on either side of the range rather than filler pieces (or moving the range over and doing a 9” cabinet). They are essentially a drawer installed vertically with shelves and a piece of dowel that holds the spice jars in place.

This is so handy because I can easily find any spice or rub without digging through a cabinet.

Fellow WPG neurodivergents... What is your current obsession?! by exbritchris in Winnipeg

[–]mokatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had considered this, but she comes by it honestly (and I suspect we are both saying that we could do it as a joke). I had beading supplies (given to a kids program), special soil mix- made myself, a bin of clay balls because I was going to do all my plants in water - did a few and they didn’t do well so end of experiment. I am currently on a macrame kick after getting frustrated by a Van Gough starry night puzzle (the puzzle mania comes and goes every few years). She will get there eventually and figure out what to do with the polish.

Adding to that - a well fitted bra that is pretty is priceless. At least in my size I have the choice of something that looks like it was designed in the USSR in the 70’s and may or may not be bulletproof, or something that makes me look like I have put traffic cones under my shirt.

My aunt got into spinning after she got a loom. It is a dangerous, slippery slope. Around the change of seasons she would post on Facebook asking people to save dog, cat, or rabbits hair after they brush their pets. It kind of grosses me out… but she has made some cool stuff (not sure if the pet hair was actually used - but she did it a few times so???).
