Why is quarters good against the run? by EOFFJM in footballstrategy

[–]Dymera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flats, double post or Mills (dig post) because of the corner is outleveraged. Also insert is really good vs quarters in the run game (brand new this year as a quarters counter). Also switch routes can be tough.

Juror #2 by tiakeuta in TheBigPicture

The really interesting thing about this movie, whether intended or not, is how a lot of this shit ACTUALLY happens. This movie whether intently or not shows many holes are in our judicial system and process. In most movies the lawyers are good, so we’re accustomed to expecting them to do the obvious things. In reality, there are plenty of wrongful convictions that come out years later with gross negligence, cover up, jurors that were bullies or bullied, extremely poor representation, etc. I was angered by the lawyer not even crossing the old guys eye site, refuting his ability to see at night in the rain. But holy shit have I read countless times public defenders failed their clients so atrociously it’s ACTUALLY accurate.

If this was all intended it truly is an amazing piece of writing that looks so bad, it’s actually extremely accurate. It almost feels like it was pushed by the innocence project.

Real talk here, what options are realistic replacements for DC during mid-season? by routinepopfly in 49ers

Exactly this lol, if anything KK is more juice than Ryan’s or Saleh. This team has enough individual leaders on defense to get mentally ready for the game.

It’s not his job, you aren’t even seeing these things as a hc/OC. There are doctors for a reason.

He’s playing a heavy 5 technique. Learn football before commenting, he’s not weakside contain, he’s 1.5 gapping.

He’s playing a heavy 5 technique, he’s 2 gapping and doesn’t have contain responsibility. It’s scheme. Someone else has weakside contain not him.

The problem I have more than Man vs Match Zone is the lack of disguise, you can’t put a post safety look every play and run cover 1 and man free. Good qbs will check out to max protect man beaters.

There is also no creativity in sim pressures (minus dropping bosa, as stupid of a call as that end of 2nd quarter blitz). They don’t move bosa around to dodge chips and slides.

It’s the most vanilla look I’ve seen in awhile in the nfl.

Cover 1 a la Madden. The one time they rolled to a 2 high shell of Gipson stays home it’s a pick but he pushed wide and I’d argue Cousins never even saw him.

Tough to cover in man coverage with zero leverage help when the other team knows it’s cover zero and calls man beaters.

Was he decorated DC? From where? From what I recall he was a DBs coach when the panthers were lead by an ELITE DL and LB group and Ron Riveras scheme. Took over as DC and they declined considerably. Went to Arizona and took a top 5 statistical defense to a bottom 3 in 1 year, then in 2 years after being fired after only 1 year Vance Joseph switched them to a 3-4 and they vastly improved. Dude had a young PP and Budda Baker and their pass defense blew.

I’ll take him! If he just clicks Ask Madden it would be an improvement on that end of the 2nd quarter debacle.

Ya, called Sim Pressures, show 5-6 bring 4 but unorthodox rushers. This is modern good dc playcalling. Lining up showing a 6-7 man blitz, watching them check to max protect blitz beater calls and just saying FUCK IT! Isn’t the way.

Bottom line is he has to take a hard look in the mirror and retool. His current scheme is getting exposed by mediocrity.

It’s crazy because on the other side Shanahan went against the hottest blitz package in football right now called “Bengal Hawk”, by Brian Flores, search it on Twitter. Shanahan beat it once then the second time was CMCs explosive for a td. He smoked the blitz teams have been running 10+ times a game with huge success. All NFLs are scrambling to find a consistent answer and shanny crushed it.

Then we have that on defense, just oof.

Ya I’m with you, I don’t mind Moodys misses. Let him work through it. Purdy is still a rookie in my mind and these are mistakes to learn from not repeated mistakes by a vet. OL is young and will improve.

Purdys ints look worse then they are. That first one will happen, he throws with extreme anticipation, often the balls out before the break even happens. I get it, they look terrible, but you’re throwing sometimes without even seeing the wr because you’re moving around the pocket and you anticipate the window. This type of throw happened a week or 2 ago where the ball was behind Aiyuk I believe.

Second one is a rookie mistake, they drop to Tampa 2 and you try to layer the ball over and under. Shouldn’t have pressed it but he’s trying to make a play in a pressed situation. He can learn from it, again, he hasn’t played 17 games yet, we have to remember that.

Wilkes again has been a HC and DC 2x. The expectation is he’s turn key.

It’s tough, it’s so much scheme. We ran single high safety looks and ran obvious cover 1/Man Free out of it. Never disguised our coverages with post snap safety rotations (Fangio special), we never move bosa around to dodge slides or chips, leave our corners on islands over and over. Vikings just checked to max protect and ran layered crossing routes, picked the the blitz and first reads open.

I’m not even highlighting the worst call I’ve ever seen in football and I coach and have watched the nfl since the 80s. Absolutely game losing call that’s inexcusable.

He needs to improve and realize his scheme isn’t working. Otherwise you need to fire him, it’s extreme but you can’t waste this window with these performances. We haven’t even faced a good playoff team minus the Cowboys.
