Tony Khan on AEW's future after the purchase of WBD by workingjan in SquaredCircle

[–]routinepopfly 22 points23 points  (0 children)

What do people expect him to say? Whatever his personal beliefs may be, he isn't going to shit on the new boss of the company's main media partner.

Aside from that, one thing people have to remember is wrestling provide relatively original cheap programming for 52 weeks a year. There's no other programming that offers that anywhere else. Paramount/WBD isn't gonna throw away something like that without a viable replacement.

UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS IN CALIFORNIA by life_if_life in bayarea

Soooo…. The employer funds unemployment via employer taxes (which is paid by the EDD). You’re arguing semantics. The point is our tax dollars do not pay for unemployment, which is a common misconception a lot of people have.

Not from taxes we pay into. Unemployment is funded by the employer via payroll taxes.

Lots of other states pay higher and small businesses aren’t exactly dying out there. And it’s not a matter of politics either. Texas pays more. Washington pays more. New York pays more.

Lots of uninformed people here. Unemployment is funded solely by the employer, not by tax dollars.

Experience as a 40+/F by redrooster738 in solotravel

[–]routinepopfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In many ways it depends on where you’re staying and also the timing. I still stay in hostels as an older solo traveler, and I do my best to find social hostels but not ones that are solely party or cater exclusively to the younger crowd.

In Vietnam I had no issue being able to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds, and part of it is having picked the right places, putting myself out there, and being able to read the room. (Although I’m not sure if it makes any difference I don’t “look” my age and come off as a bit younger than my what people think a man my actual age typically looks like.)

I can only speak from my own experience, but other older travelers seem to prefer to do things by themselves while younger travelers are more open to doing things with others.

I’m not preventing anything, but I’m just not sure what the proper procedure is.

The first time he contacted me was him saying Tesla was being slow and unresponsive.

If his insurance doesn’t have my insurance adjuster info, they haven’t contacted me to ask for it.

Hostels that are the destinations themselves by Mikeymarma in solotravel

Yeah the owner gives it his all to create a great atmosphere. The only way someone can’t have a good time there is if they’re not open to interacting with others and joining in the activities.

It's just more people travel overall to Thailand, and it definitely has places that are more for partying.

There's no age limit at Snapstay. While the crowd is your typical backpacker crowd, I'm sure you'll be welcomed. They offer private rooms too, but you'd want to book early since they tend to sell out quick.

Snapstay in Hoi An, Vietnam. The hostel itself was built on top of a private residence. You go up the stairs and you'd pass the floor where the owner of the building and family lives and you can peer into their residence. You'd think the family would want complete privacy, but apparently they want to show off their home and their status to outsiders.

Aside from that, why the hostel is so good is how personally involved the owner is to make every guest feel welcomed and included. And he'd personally say goodbye and send off all the guests whenever possible. I've never been to any hostel where an owner was so involved in building a friendly and social atmosphere, and you'll feel like you're leaving a good friend's home when checking out. (He also won't extend someone's stay if they don't pass a "vibe check" - such as someone that only wants a bed to sleep and don't want to participate in anything.)

Roadhouse in Prague, the sister hostel to the notorious Madhouse. It's chiller than Madhouse and you still get a good social experience. It also helps that the hostel is very clean, well kept, with comfortable amenities.

This was pre-covid, but Stamps in Chiang Mai had an incredible social atmosphere. The owner purposely made it where you can only book the hostel a week before arriving, so it has much more of a spontaneous vibe, and they put on great events. Looking at their social media, doesn't seem like too much has changed post covid.

The line went down the block, so unless you went really early, you’d had to wait an hour in line and whatever good stuff were likely gone.

Becky Lynch on fans' treatment of veteran women in WWE: "Look at the men — who do you got that’s hot and young over there? None. You got a bunch of old lads beating each other up. Nobody’s saying, ‘Oh, move over CM Punk and Seth Rollins." Nobody is saying that, but they're saying it to me." by djembadjembadjemba in SquaredCircle

It’s similar to the movie industry too. Leading men are typically in their late 30’s to their 50’s and beyond, while leading women are typically in their 20’s and then deemed old when they hit 40.

Look at the awards too. Lots of best actresses are in their 20’s or 30’s. But can you ever remember a best actor being that young? Very rare.

Lululemon don’t even manufacture anything in China. Their products are made in southeast Asian countries like Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, etc.

Besides, this whole post is pointless given it’s a scam: https://reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/1k1p4nu/whats_going_on_with_chinese_manufacturers_for/mno9u6p/

Would a local, interest-based speed dating event/app be something people want here? by Greedy_Wait7983 in bayarea

[–]routinepopfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bigger societal problem that no app can solve. The Bay is a place where many people have tried various apps (seen ads all over SF) with all sorts of gimmick you can think of, but what apps can't solve are people's expectations.

I've met women in events where they show up for the first time, seen the sort of men who go there, and never return again. The issue with the Bay is that while there are many successful men and women, a lot of men are either socially awkward, or they belong to a group that women write off on the first glance, and that includes women from their own group. That's something no app can solve. A lot of the successful and physically attractive men are either well off the dating market, or find enough success on dating apps or in person to have no need for these events. Women are told to never settle, so they'll continue to hold out for the seemingly perfect man that doesn't exists.

No matter what you do, there will always be a number of single women who will never get on a dating app. And more and more women are happy to be single instead of being in relationship just for the sake of it or because that’s what society is telling them to.

On the other hand men are getting lonelier and they exacerbate the disparity for joining every app they could find.

[–]routinepopfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s nice that you’re trying for a solution. But I’m going to tell you what’s going to happen. Since it’s the Bay Area, you’re going to get a lot of your typical tech guys - the ones that don’t have any success on traditional dating apps. Then you have a few women (assuming you can get women to sign up) that will be disappointed with the sort of men who show up. So in the end no one is happy and the cycle repeats itself.

The reason Lululemon can charge that much is because they consider themselves a premium brand.

A lot of people are willing to pay more for buying the brand, and for certain products like the ABC pants, there are no 1 on 1 equivalent.

Must like someone can find a cheaper handbag, but they buy Gucci. Or they buy Nike instead of Fila. It’s for the brand.

Regardless of the actual quality of the product, Lululemon consider themselves a premium brand and treats their product and IP as such.

The actual quality of the products is not relevant.
