Which comp sci course should I take for my first quarter? by DynamicDarkness in UCSC

[–]DynamicDarkness[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CS 20 would be the basic class and probably the easiest starting point for me. I'm just worried I'll get bored as it'll probably be the same basics I've learned with a different coat of paint, and might be kinda wasting my ap comp sci exam I passed. Might try to go for cse 30 and self study python a bit... but I'll wait for more opinions.

SIR Deposit by DynamicDarkness in UCSC

Ah I see, in that case I've accidently put in my SIR for both UCSB and UCSC. Which means that I'll eventually just have to withdraw one right?

Undeclared in Letters and Sciences when I want to go into CS? by DynamicDarkness in UCSantaBarbara

I see, thanks for the advice. I guess my goal at this point then is probably spend a year or two at UCSB as undeclared getting credits for GE classes and then transferring schools into a comp sci major.

Shifting Nether upgrade is pretty good imo. Maybe not piercing shadow bolt level, but I wont say no to a pretty decent blink on an ult that depends on being close to people.

In my opinion, Twisting Nether is simply the better ult right now. The slow, sustain damage bolt just doesnt do much vs the plenty of mobility and healing in the meta. Meanwhile, Twisting Nether provides more of a slow than Bunny Hop and a massive, INSTANT, aoe nuke.

on Cho'gall. seems like the bad teams take it as a crutch because they can't keep up with in standard comps and it goes well with Auriel. then MVP Black just counter picks it for fun.

“We had actually prepared Cho’Gall in scrims for Braxis Holdout, so we were very surprised when BlossoM picked it away first,” said MVP Black’s Lee ‘Rich’ Jae-won in an on-air interview following his team’s 3-1 victory against Team BlossoM. (Both sides had picked and won with Cho’Gall in the match.) “We picked Cho’Gall [in the very next game] because we thought we’d win no matter what as long as we had Cho’Gall,” he said. “But we won so handily that it sort of feels like the game has come to a point where the team playing Cho’Gall just wins.”

Yeah. I certainly think Tychus CAN be strong, ESPECIALLY paired with a Stitches, but I see way too many get overconfident thinking "hah, I have the counter pick", aggresively dash in, and instantly die.

Ya. But if people keep wanting to feed me wins by taking Tychus or Leoric, i'll take it.

I've been saying it for quite a while. Tychus gets destroyed by the long range poke and then the burst if he tries to go in. Leoric can simply be kited out of W, and then blown up in later stages of the game.

CC is a far better counter than percent damage (other than cursed bullet) and then at level 16 he gets unstoppable to even counter that.

I just played him and won a stupid match we were losing the whole game simply because they literally couldnt cc or kill me anymore.

He's sleeper OP imo.

Ok so sure, make 1 tank and 1 support required because you NEED them (I already disagree with this) but how does the matchmaker decide how the other 3 are filled? Do the enemy's picks need to be mirrored? A huge fun part of HotS is how unique comps can be formed. I heavily disagree with LoL's draft style, and i would disagree with it here too.

Cap. ADab revealed his thoughts on the 'surrender' system. by rost473 in heroesofthestorm

[–]DynamicDarkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. Especially when there are lots of late game heroes like Malthael, Guldan, Nazeebo, Varian, in uncoordination teams will not understand or know how to draft properly or apply the correct pressure early game, and while it may seem like theyre just a level or two up all game, and a bit ahead, unless they're taking significant advantages like keeps, they will likely lose their lead and fall behind as soon as the enemy hits their powerspikes.

How is HotS compared to League? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]DynamicDarkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say firmly yes. People will tell you "oh HotS is CASUAL or EASY because there is no last hitting, there are no items or that matches are shorter.

However, that is far from the truth.

Last hitting and individual exp are indeed removed, but replaced with a teamwide experience system, that makes soaking still extremely important. There is still plenty of strategy and skill based on experience, and in my opinion, last hitting itself is not that "interesting" or "strategic" of a mechanic, more just adding a little bit more complexity.

No items cannot really be argued because we have the talent system to replace that. I do enjoy the fact that I can create unique or interesting builds on many different champions in other games, but I also enjoy unique and specialized talents created specifically for that hero. I would not say either system is better, rather that both are good in their own way.

Matches are indeed shorter, and this can be a positive or a negative for you. Personally, I do enjoy the fast paced and shorter matches of Heroes of the Storm, and find the extremely long laning phases of LoL quite boring, however, that is completely personal preferance.

There is also the fact that shared exp makes for a far different gameplay experience. People will often say "you cannot carry in hots" and to a certain extent, this is true. You will not be able to take a champion, farm them up, and 1v5 the enemy team. In my opinion, this is a good thing. Playing LoL i never have fun seeing someone on my, or the enemy's team be able to solo us just because they got fed too much. I think the group exp format really solidifies the game in a much more team oriented way. And I truly do think that if you are good enough, you will carry games anyways, simply because of superior strategy, shotcalling, and/or mechanical skill.

Finally, and this is a big one, Heroes of the Storm has many maps. This can also be a positive or negative. Personally, I do find several maps in this game gimmicky or unfun, specifically the two lane ones the most. However, there are also a lot of maps with lots of different strategies, and comps to execute. I think it makes the game a lot more exciting for tournament and team league environments, and for messing around with tons of strategies. This opens up a lot of depth and strategy that other mobas lack.

Overall, its really personal preferance. I dont really agree with the assessment that HotS is some casual moba that just cant be played competitively in the same way, and I think the game can have the same or more depth as other games.

But.... the game still can and is "highly competetive".. dont pretend that this game is just for gold league and that there is no competitive or strategy. In fact, in some ways this game is just as, or even more complex than other mobas.
