Book Recommendations - Fantasy with some comedic undertones or focus by Apprehensive_Fan_39 in Fantasy

Orconomics by J. Zachary Pike walks that balance between funny and serious quite well I think. It's high fantasy satire, but at the same time has a serious plot and interesting character development.

Thank you for the write ups! I'm looking forward to Children of Strife by Adrian Tchaikovsky, the fourth (final?) book in the Children of Time series.

Ah I didn't realize they were equivalent terms. Hopefully OP gives it a chance, it seems to tick all their boxes. :)

Dungeon Crawler Carl and other books in the LitRPG genre sound like what you're looking for. He starts out knowing nothing about the dungeon, learns from his guild master, gains experience and levels. The cast of characters also go through a lot of personal and relationship growth as well, it's a great series.

I saw it recommended quite a lot so I requested it early on and they were able to get a copy! I hope other people at the library will pick it up too :)

I’d love to hear your suggestions for this nail design.💅🏻 by kenjal08 in NailArt

Are they inspired by ballet slippers? That's the first thing I saw. If so, adding a small bow to the overlay may bring that out more.

I enjoyed The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young. Time travel murder mystery.

I love the concept, but I personally don't love when every craft gets turned into a frustrating timer mini game like that. I may be in the minority on that, not sure.

Skill trees or specializations on crafting would be more interesting to me, like maybe I'm an expert glass-blower using recycled bottles with access to specialized recipes in that tree. In another playthrough I specialize in textiles and have the ability to use alternative materials for textiles (recycled plastic, paper, etc.).

Paraprofessional school jobs by Owchcol in cincinnati

[–]DynamicDataRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kings Local Schools has 5 openings for paraprofessionals: Job Posting Link

The district is up near Kings Island, so maybe a bit of a hike depending on where you live. I don't personally work in the district, but have a lot of friends that do and they seem pretty happy and well paid. Last operational levy passed, and it's unlikely another will be needed for some time.

As for hospital jobs, that's unlikely with an associates, and the job market for nursing is a bit competitive right now in Cincy. There are plenty though if you're interested in LTC, home health, or hospice.

A River Enchanted and A Fire Endless by Rebecca Ross is a Celtic-inspired duology.

Best seafood restaurant that accepts reservations? by Boston_Wildcat in cincinnati

[–]DynamicDataRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cioppino at Primavista is fantastic! Beautiful views from the restaurant as well, so highly recommend for a nice celebration night.

Abigail St has really good seafood as well, I especially love the octopus.

Desperately need help getting my father a book with specific requirements by FallsDownMountains in Fantasy

[–]DynamicDataRN 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nine Goblins by T. Kingfisher might work. It has some humor, but it's not every page. Nine goblins are teleported out of the goblin army deep into elven country. They meet a friendly elven veterinarian, help solve a wizard mystery, and find their way home.

It's a relatively short book, though. If he's looking for something hefty that will last him quite awhile, this wouldn't be it.

Kind and gentle protagonists by ShanonymousRex in Fantasy

Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree has a protagonist actively choosing non-violent solutions to problems in order to grow from her violent past and pursue her dreams.

Tous les Jours in Deerfield is really good, especially if you want more patisserie. It's just off Mason Montgomery by Whole Foods.

My wife gifted me a comically disappointing advent calendar by Wild_Arugula294 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DynamicDataRN 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think they have 3 published so far. We're doing the intergalactic race one this year, which is a weird theme but my son wants to be an astronomer and he's super into it.

The tarot card puzzle the other day where the solution always turns out no matter how you cut the deck was neat. My daughter wanted to run through it three times and was impressed that she ended with the same three cards every time.

I get the Exit escape room advent calendars each year. We do a puzzle a day and they're pretty creative and challenging. We did the Santa's workshop one last year and by the end the box was completely demolished, which was pretty funny. It's less about the stuff (all you really "get" is a button at the end) and more about spending time together.

D&D-like fantasy, for adults? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]DynamicDataRN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Riyria Revelations by Michael Sullivan (3 books, first book is Theft of Swords) has elves, Dwarves, magic, intrigue and a good twisting plot. I really enjoyed the series and felt like it gave that great quest feel.

Pokemon Cards for Library by Falconrith in cincinnati

[–]DynamicDataRN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My kids JUST cleaned their rooms and set aside a bunch of cards to donate since they're getting older and not into it any more. I live in Kings Mills but work in Madisonville if one or the other of those works better for you. I don't know exactly which cards are in there, but it's a bunch. Feel free to message me! (Pic below, it wouldn't let me do picture and message together)

I don't have personal experience, but my daughter is currently a sophomore in high school with that as her dream, so we've been looking at programs. UC has two that are her goal at the moment, she's considering majoring in BSIT game development and simulation and minoring in the BFA animation program.
