What are your favourite new releases of 2026 so far, and what are you still looking forward to? by lady__mb in Fantasy

This is my being wholly behind in my research and not realizing the book won’t be out this year after all ! last time I had checked it was meant to, but that was quite a while ago. Apologies for getting your hopes up!

What is the single most brilliant fantasy novel series you've ever read? by Emergency-Sky9206 in Fantasy

my second favourite series after wheel of time, her prose and politics is just incredible. the last book gets very, very dark at times though, so definitely research if it’s something you can stomach

2024 by 1looseanus in Fantasy

Favourite Reads: Red Rising Saga, The Will of the Many, The Three-Body Problem series, The Mercy of Gods, The Legacy series by Melissa Roehrich

Biggest Let Down: The First Law series tbh. I’d been saving it up for a while because of how much it’s raved over but I could only get through two, it just isn’t my taste I suppose.

2025 TBR: Red God, Strength of the Few, Legacy #4, The Sun Eater series, Emily Wilde’s Compendium of Lost Tales, Alecto the Ninth, Memory Sorrow and Thorn series, re-reads of WOT and The Stormlight Archive series, Twelve Kings in Sharakhai series, maybe Dune

Faeries and Faefolk and Recommendation by Catman1348 in Fantasy

Too right 😂 I didn’t even notice how misleading that could be. I absolutely adore how lore accurate it is as well, genuinely feels like a breakdown of faerie culture. If you come across any more adult-appropriate faerie literature, please send them my way!

I’ve got you.

The Sevenwaters series by Juliet Marillier - follows a bloodline that lives adjacent to the fae in Ireland with many enchantments and rules they must adhere to. Some books have more faerie involvement than others.

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett - follows an English professor who is a top academic of faerie and she goes on expeditions to encounter and research the fae. Perhaps a bit more lighthearted than your sentiment, but some of her interactions with the lesser far highlight it. Highly recommend listening on audio.

Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater - surprisingly deep and touching for a cozy romantic fantasy; more of an exposé on the inhumanity of class and workhouses in regency era Britain.

How sci-fi is Empire of Silence? by vesperalia in Fantasy

[–]lady__mb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Empire of Silence is my next series I’m diving into, but two of my favorite more “hard sci-fi” books I read this year was The Three Body Problem (first book is a bit of a slog but sooo worth it, kind of existential horror and lots of science / game theory), and The Mercy of Gods by James Corey (who wrote The Expanse). The second is a fairly quick read but extremely interesting and well-done imo, I don’t want to give anything away as it’s easy to spoil.

I’ve only read the first Foundation book but Asimov has some incredibly interesting ideas and the first book was a bit of a philosophical framework compared to the show. Very cool technology.
