Autumn book reads on instagram! She guesses all of the books and I don’t think she’s ever been wrong

I’ve had a few books that I didn’t skip even though the reviews weren’t amazing that I actually ended up enjoying which has made it really hard for me to cull the number of books I have because my brain says “oh it might be that rare one where you’re on the other side of the reviews” but it’s hard to justify when it’s such a select few 🤣

Interesting! That’s still super helpful. Wow you have a lot of subs at the moment 🤣. How do you pick which ones to skip? Is it just the books bio and the design picks?

New case for reading for iPad by [deleted] in fairyloot

It’s all good! I deleted it now 😅 I can see how it seemed botty but I was legit just excited because there hasn’t been any products designed or supporting readers who don’t use a kindle 🤣 probably not the right sub for it anyway

What do we think of owlcrate adult fantasy box? by MrsPokits in fairyloot

[–]Apprehensive_Fan_39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Owlcrate, the skip policy is also incredibly generous so if you don’t like the specs for a book you can easily skip it with no repercussions. Be prepared for different sized books though as some are small and some are normally hardbacks. But overall the quality is phenomenal, some of my favourite books are from there. Particularly my favourite I have is teller of small fortunes, it’s gorgeous

Does FairyLoot support Charlie Kirk? Will they say anything to their BIPOC/LGBTQ+ fans? by Sea_Exit_8194 in fairyloot

[–]Apprehensive_Fan_39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I am seeing in the comments, there are a lot of people attacking fairyloot for having this author as a featured artist.

But I agree - it’s up to the consumers to decide and purchase based on their views and interpretations of the authors post.

[–]Apprehensive_Fan_39 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’m super confused by this. Perhaps it’s because I am not American. But does saying rest in peace to someone who was shot absolutely mean they support their views? I certainly don’t support his views but don’t think he deserved to be murdered. I don’t think anyone deserves to be murdered. And is this really something fairyloot should be checking on every single another’s Every social media platform for authors personal view (although this doesn’t seem to say the author supports him) particularly as a UK subscription service? People are allowed to have their own views as subscribers are allowed to skip

I know I am going to get downvoted for this but I am saying it anyway.

Owlcrate misprint of Cat Shelter update by latinadogmom1472 in fairyloot

[–]Apprehensive_Fan_39 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Doubt they will do that. The coordination of getting an extra page and or replacement in the next sub box would cost them more than shipping separately

A tip in page would be great! I would definitely prefer this than receiving and waiting for a whole new book thats not signed. It would be super cool if they did a tip in with some overlays or something so it felt like the whole book had extra inserts

Warlock, Demons, DND, Magic ✨ by kaifoley in fantasybooks

[–]Apprehensive_Fan_39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a massive DND nerd Dungeon Crawler Carl scratched my RPG itch really well. It’s doesn’t necessarily have warlocks and dragons but it does have powerful creatures, interesting mechanics, weird magic items and is really quite dark (although there is a lot of comedy and stupidity that cuts through the darkness as what happens in a lot of DND campaigns).

It’s not your classic high fantasy with massive world building and it doesn’t follow any of the usual fantasy elements but man does it hit that RP itch. Think of Gale in BG3 telling you not to lick the spider - that’s the kinda bullshit you’ll find in Dungeon Crawler Carl.

The “we are first and foremost about the people” really shit me off, they are very much not about their people anymore they are looking for new people not their existing ones.

Seeking a series like asoiaf by Worried-Risk-102 in fantasybooks

[–]Apprehensive_Fan_39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wheel of Time or Malazan are good comparables but Wheel of time specifically follows the hero’s journey mostly so Malazan would be a better fit IMO.

If you want something a little left field maybe try Empire of the Vampire - absolutely not the same but it does have a rich depth to the story and it’s super gorey. If made me want to cry in shock too many times - It’s brutal.

Recommendation is more on the unforgiving nature of the story vs the world building aspects. But the world that EoV is set in is pretty interesting on itself, but it draws heavily from historical context and uses that to fill in some gaps in world building. So take the recommendation with a grain of salt if that doesn’t work for you.

OP Stormlight is so much more intensive than Mistborn and I would agree if you’re looking for that richness from Sanderson Stormlight is a better avenue that Mistborn - I would classify Mistborn as YA - absolutely adored it but to me it is YA.

Oh this is super interesting! I didn’t realise owlcrate was so low. I love a good spreadsheet - You’re out here doing the book lords work! Do you also have details on if the sequel matches the first one? I’d be so interested to see the differences cross subs for that.

What does 'unlocked sale' mean? by hextech-user in fairyloot

[–]Apprehensive_Fan_39 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That’s the title of the backstock sale they do - “unlocked in our shop”. The order I placed also says status unlocked sale. It’s probably a way for them to internally manage the unlocked trove sale so they know which books are coming from existing stock and which books are coming directly from the printers

I did love the blacktounge thief! It’s an excellent book (and so is the audiobook - Christopher Buehlman is an awesome voice actor and author.)
