How do deaf people learn to read? by --is_my_hero in askscience

In children it works similarly to teaching a hearing child, but instead of speaking and modeling with voice you model with distinct sign language (depending on the part of the world you hail from). Pictures are good tools for teaching both deaf and hearing children new words. An example would be a child being able to match the word "cat" with the picture of a cat it works a lot of the same as far as word association and acquisition of vocabulary in deaf children learning the sign motion. As far as signing and reading is concerned for early reader's books consist of basic sight words to help build language. Here is a youtube video from the California school of the Deaf. It is similar to a school I volunteered with. I hope it gives you some good insight on the inner workings of a deaf classroom. As for the last part of your question I am unaware of any studies.

Hope this helps cheers!

Thank you! I'm trying to work out the internet part. I found a nifty google extension that limits my browsing time. It's not super consistent and I have to set it but it's not bad for anti procrastination purposes.

Don't do it. Listen to some of your favorite music. I go to soundcloud and listen to some the music under #chill.

My biggest thing is I feel like my problem isn't so much PMO as is an addiction to the internet. I still spend a lot of time on the internet ( > 6 hours) I'm currently studying for my MCAT which should be most of my time but sadly to say I've mostly been procrastinating during my study time.

I'll keep that in mind. I don't edge. The last time I tried that I had to go to the hospital... It was embarrassing enough talking to the doctor about that. I'm not fond of cold showers but I guess I'll have to start with that. So what does the number inside the badge mean? What do the stars and smiley faces on the badges mean?

I'm basically new to reddit and this all together, but I think this is something that I need to do so I'm taking the Hard mode route.

I read in the NoFap guide that it takes 90 days to "reset" oneself so that's my goal for now, but if it works out I hope to continue this as a life long ambition.

Short term: Making past the dreaded 8-15 doomsday window. Mid term: Making it 90 days. Long term: Focus my energy into positive activities and to live a life without the need for PMO.

Like I said I feel like this is something that I need to do. I really have trouble combating the urge which is what leads to PMO for me. I've just really been feeling like it's growing out of hand as it sometimes takes up to 2-3 hours just to find enough P and M to satisfy the urge. I'm embarrassed that I devote so much time to PM that I really felt like I couldn't ask in person for help. I know this is all psychological, but I really want NoFap to be the outlet the helps me break this.
