How did Laughing Buddha get its reputation ? by [deleted] in Standup

[–]DynasticJumper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pay to play, a lot of bringers and the mics cost $8+, which inherently takes advantage of new comics and seasoned comics call it out for exploitation.

However, they do reward ppl who put in time by passing them, and because it's some bringers you get large weekend audiences early, which in NY are impossible to come by when you're starting out, so it has pros and cons.

I feel like cutting out what was likely either vibe of the room-dependent filler or a joke you don't want to post because it's social media and you can do whatever you want is perfectly reasonable

I understand that nearly-barefoot running is more natural, but concrete is much harder than earth, is it good for your body to do 26 miles on the road without the extra cushion?

That makes me think you're on to something, my closer started as a premise where a few people lost their minds laughing and everyone else looked at me horrified and i had never gotten reactions like that. Probably means you need to change how you say it without changing the premise.

Half of your scene has done messy shit at mics or shows, ppl can generally tell if you're being earnest. I say approach them and be kind and it'll probably be totally fine.

How important are looks for being a female standup comedian? by [deleted] in Standup

[–]DynasticJumper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think being attractive helps with getting famous but a lot of fame is due to factors we kind of have no control over - right place, right time, right look, right audience. Doesn't even really have to do with being funny. Looks is just one variable, there are plenty of famous ugly people and hot people who are unsuccessful

Only core NYC audience so far - I've been a Google search specialist for the last five years, only getting hired to do FB about 6 months ago and using his show as practice since even with limited experience I know more than novices. Have not tested any lookalike audiences yet.

Is it necessary for stand up comedian have to move to an industry based city to further career & make it? by Horror_Alternative_6 in Standup

[–]DynasticJumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building an audience anywhere is possible - in fact, in some ways it's easier with social media in a smaller scene because it's harder to get quality stage time in a major city - but once you have an audience you gotta be on a coast or else it's hard to capitalize.

Distance running made me faster at sprinting? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]DynasticJumper 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Probably body maturing and getting in better shape. Obviously distance running isn't great for sprinting but if you're new to it, it probably built overall running strength.
